The Chancel Choir at Church of the Lighted Window in La Cañada will present its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. Admission is free. The concert will feature choral pieces, solos, and a congregation sing-along of favorite Christmas carols. Choral pieces will include works by John Rutter, including "Nativity Carol," H. Walford Davies, "The Holly and the Ivy," and David Willcocks, "Ding Dong! Merrily on High." Solos will be performed by mezzo-soprano Wanda Lau, tenor John Paul Jones, and baritone Eulis Kay. The Chancel Choir is directed by Harold Daugherty, Jr. with accompaniment by Joseph Klice on the piano and pipe organ.

The choirs of Church of the Lighted Window in La Cañada and St. Edmund's Espiscopal Church in Pasadena will be in concert at 4 p.m. on June 3 at the Church of the Lighted Window. The choirs will perform Anotnio Vivaldi's "Gloria," as well as other favorites. Features soloists are soprano Wanda Lau and alto Amber Farris. The Church of the Lighted Window orchestra will accompany the choirs. Dr. Harold Daugherty will conduct. Members of the community are invited to attend the free concert.

This first Sunday in Advent, Dec. 4, the first candle "Hope" will be lit. Pastor Skip Lindeman will lead the worship service and deliver the message at Church of the Lighted Window in La Cañada. Members of the Youth Group will greet arriving worshipers. Included in the 10 a.m. service will be the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Visitors are welcome. Church school classes for all ages are available, Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers. Theresa Servin is the director of Christian Education.

The 90-member 7/8 Band at La Cañada High School delighted the students at Palm Crest Elementary School, Paradise Canyon Elementary and after lunch at La Cañada Elementary with patriotic performances last Friday. "We are here for two reasons. One is to perform for your spirit rally and assembly. Secondly, to encourage those of you that play instruments to keep playing and practicing and invite you to come join us when you're in the seventh grade. Now let's have some music fun," said Susan Hamre-Addison, LCHS music teacher.

Many La Cañada High School students were recently notified of their selection into the All-State and All-Southern honor groups, setting another record for LCHS. "It's an honor to get just one student into All-State," said music teacher Susan Hamre, "but to have 16 in the honor groups is amazing. It's quite a testimony to our students' musicianship." Earning membership into prestigious groups are the following: All State High School Band: Ara Darakjian, 12th bass clarinet; Kate Doubleday, 11th bassoon; Kara Malhotra, 11th clarinet; Micky Moura, 11th trombone; Joann Kang, 10th flute; Tomas Kanholm, 9th tuba.

The La Cañada swim team showed off its muscle at the Morrow Invitational on Friday, finishing first in both the boys’ and girls’ meets at Beverly Hills High. La Cañada boys’ swim team won the meet easily with 260 points to Harvard-Westlake’s 221.5. The girls won by a wide margin as well, 244 points to Harvard-Westlake’s 211. “It was a good win,” said La Cañada boys’ Head Coach Art Lopez. “A lot of our swimmers qualified for the CIF prelims today.
