Children at Crescenta-Cañada Nursery School shared the story of the birth of Jesus with friends and family at the school's annual Christmas celebration. Pastor Bruce Johnson kicked off the celebration, followed by a program of singing by the Busy Bears (4 to 5 year olds) and Darling Ducklings (3 to 4 year olds). Children at the school spent weeks learning about the history of Christmas and rehearsing songs such as “There Was a Little Baby” and “Jingle Bells.” The event was capped off by a special surprise visit from Santa, who brought books for each child in attendance and posed for photos.

Parents and grandparents had a twinkle in their eyes, as the Palm Crest Elementary School kindergarteners excitedly entered the cafeteria Friday morning to perform their holiday songs. There was not an empty seat, with many guests having to stand. Following the lead of Maggie Landau, one of the kindergarten teachers, and accompanied by Mariella Nybakken, teacher's assistant, playing the piano, the kinder Panthers sang Jingle Bells, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Angel Band, Up On The House Top, Candles of Hanukkah, Joyous Chanukah and It's A Small World.

In the spirit of both Christmas and cooperation, Crescenta-Cañada Cooperative Nursery School students, teachers, and parents celebrated the holiday with songs, food, and so much merriment that Santa himself had to come see what all the noise was about. "It just gets better and better each year," said Nita Imm, teacher of the Busy Bears and director of the school, referring to their annual Christmas Program where the Darling Ducklings (3 year olds) and Busy Bears (4 year olds) join voices and hands to the delight of the preschoolers' family and friends.

The Glendale Marketplace shopping center, located at 144 S. Brand Blvd. announcs Jingle Jams -- which offers free, live holiday music, including a performance by the Crescenta Valley Charismatics Chamber Choir Group. The event will offer performances by local talent on weekends starting Nov. 26 and continuing through Dec. 24. Featuring costumed caroling groups, jazz bands and soloists, Jingle Jams will bring holiday cheer to downtown Glendale with festive music and free candy canes.

Pastor Bruce Johnson will lead the 10 a.m. worship service on Dec. 18 at Lutheran Church in the Foothills, 1700 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. Sunday school is offered at 9 a.m. The evening service will feature Anthem Chorale presenting a Christmas concert and sing-a-long. The program will be in the Fellowship Hall and feature treats and songs. The public is invited. On Monday, the Men's Prayer Breakfast will be held at Jeremy's. The AM Kiwanis will meet Monday at 7:15 a.m. The Awesome Youth Group, along with the Anthem Choral group, will wear Santa hats and jingle bells as they serenade at Solheim Luthern Home in Glendale on Dec. 21. The church will host Christmas Eve Candlelight Services at 5 and 11 p.m.

Teen musicians play carols for the needy La Cañada High School musicians Stephen Tran , Joseph Tran and Goldie Young wanted to use their talents to help people in need of food and shelter this holiday season. The Trans, St. Bede parishioners, approached Barbara Weber to suggest that they could augment the parish’s Alternative Gift Mart with a mini-concert of holiday music at the homes of 10 people who would donate $100 to any of the eight charities sponsored by the mart.

Back-to-back matinees of 'Holiday Wonders,' the Los Angeles Master Chorale's signature yuletide family concert conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon will take place this Saturday. The show, geared for children and adults of all ages, abounds with festive carols and memory-making sing-alongs, making it one of the city's most popular holiday traditions for children and adults of all ages. Santa Claus drops in for a special appearance and the magnificent Disney Hall organ comes alive under the masterful touch of organist William Beck.

La Cañada Flintridge will welcome in the holidays by hosting the 12th annual Glenola Park, Christmas Tree Lighting Festival and Canned Food Drive on Wednesday Dec. 6, at Glenola Park in La Cañada. The park is located at Angeles Crest and Vista Del Valle. The combined efforts of the Noon Kiwanis Club, La Cañada Girl Scouts from troops 889 and 98, along with volunteers from the city of La Cañada Flintridge, will transform Glenola Park into a sparkling wonderland. Prior to Thanksgiving, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 889 canvassed Foothill Boulevard distributing flyers advertising the event.

Those wishing to expand their repertoire of Christmas Carols beyond "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" this holiday season may want to consider joining The Pasadena Symphony on December 10 when it presents British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Joining the orchestra on stage for this performance are baritone Ralph Wells and the Combined Choirs of Occidental College. Although Vaughan Williams' work is not as well known as the carols traditionally associated with Christmas, members of the audience will recognize fragments of holiday standards throughout the performance.
