One photo can create an icon. That?s all it took for Dara Torres and her 41-year-old abs of steel. She appears beautiful and calm with a ?shredded 8 pack.? One look at Robert Maxwell?s photo of her in New York Times Magazine and you can see, not only is she an amazing athlete, but years of dedication and hard work show through those ripped abs. Dara, the mother of a 2-year-old, has just picked up her tenth medal having participated in five Olympics. The truly inspirational part of her story is that she is still competing.

At the California Science Center viewers of "Body Worlds" are mystified and left in awe of the human body. This eerie exhibit uses real cadavers and body parts. "This exhibit gives the public an opportunity usually reserved for medical professionals," said Dr. Richard Sass, senior research scholar, Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University. "Viewers get a chance to look inside their own bodies and experience the wonder and respect for what it means to be human." There are more than 200 specimens of organs, body parts, transparent slices and 25 whole body specimens in the exhibit.

Part 1 Body proportions It is essential to understand the importance of body proportions and balance in the choice of clothing designs. Technically, vertical body proportions for clothing styles can be determined through charting the body (on paper) to analyze your bone structure. With the paper attached to the wall (as tall as the person?from the floor), a diagram of the human body is determined by having someone mark: top of the head to the underarm, underarm to the hipline (where the leg meets the torso)

‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ gala is March 7 Bringing in the mail is fun when one is expecting a hot invitation, and that’s what La Cañadans are finding in their mailboxes right now. Invitations have gone out for the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation’s 18th Annual Spring Gala “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” Act fast to join fellow La Cañadans at for a fun-filled night of dining and dancing to the music of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s while raising much-needed funds for our schools.
