Pinks and reds, mingled with whites and oranges, lined the tables of Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens over the weekend, indicating the Camellia Festival was in full bloom. Growers from Bakersfield to Orange County came together at Descanso Gardens for camellia camaraderie and a little friendly competition. There were no hothouse flowers in the mix but there were some that used growth hormones. Brad King, the president of the Southern California Camellia Society, was in charge of the event that hosted hundreds of entries.
