AM Kiwanis learns about aid society The Convalescent Aid Society in Pasadena provides without charge all types of medical equipment to San Gabriel Valley residents in need.The executive director of CAS, Randy Votsch , was the featured speaker at last week?s meeting of La Cañada Kiwanis-AM . He gave the Kiwanians and their guests a fascinating story about the formation of CAS. Started in 1927 by a group of Pasadena women, their initial idea was just to provide assistance to people in need in their neighborhood, being cooking, cleaning, clothing, transportation or whatever the need might be. Q. ?My husband is getting out of the hospital in a few days after having major surgery. He is a big man and is still very weak. He can?t get out of bed by himself. My friends have told me I need to hire in-home care for him, but my doctor said he will send a nurse. Medicare covers the cost of the nurse, don?t they?? ? Dolores, La Cañada ? Dear Dolores, Medicare does cover the cost of the nurse, but the nurse is probably only going to come three times a week and then she is going to check his vital signs and perhaps change the bandage on his incision.
