Hello! Is anybody here? It has been very quiet around the hills and dales of our snug little burg. I truly think the community is taking a long winter's nap. I haven't heard a peep from anyone — which means that I don't have much to write about. I guess I can launch into some idle chatter — like the movie and television award season that launched Sunday evening with the Golden Globe Awards presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. No, I didn't go, but I did love watching the KNBC televised fashion show along the red carpet.

The La Cañada Kiwanis-AM finished the year with a joyous tour of caroling through the Verdugo Hills Hospital, keeping up an annual tradition. Ably directed by Brian Hummel and with Marie Hyland on the keyboard, the group of 30 voices brought a little extra Christmas cheer to patients and hospital personnel as they caroled their way down from the seventh floor. Just a couple of weeks earlier, the Kiwanians were themselves treated to a special performance of Holiday songs by The Alfie Singers.
