If only the Rebels can play like this all the way through the playoffs. After two rounds of CIF Southern Section Division V playoff volleyball, the Flintridge Prep Rebels return home relatively unscathed after sweeping past its first two opponents en route to a berth in the quarterfinals. The Rebels (19-5) advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Thousand Oaks? Hillcrest Christian (14-6) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13, in Tuesday?s CIF Southern Section Division V second-round playoff match in Ventura County.

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity golf team finished in three of the top five spots to beat host Azusa, 212-251, in a nonleague match on March 8 at Azusa Greens Golf Course. The Rebels, who improved to 5-2 overall, were scheduled to play host Santa Clarita Christian at Robinson Ranch Golf Course on Monday, host Calabasas Viewpoint at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club on Tuesday and meet Pasadena La Salle at Pasadena's Brookside Course yesterday (Wednesday) in nonleague matches.

In an unusual bit of scheduling, the Flintridge Prep varsity golf team won both a Prep League and a nonleague match at the Altadena Golf Course last Thursday. Playing both Pasadena Maranatha and Hillcrest Christian, the Rebels barely defeated Maranatha (215-218) for a nonleague victory and topped Hillcrest, which shot a team 255, for a league win. The Rebels, who improved to 9-6 overall and to 4-3 in league, hosted Los Angeles Cathedral in a league match at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club on Tuesday and played Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson at the Debell Golf Course yesterday (Wednesday)

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity golf team defeated host Pasadena La Salle, 217-233, at Eaton Canyon Golf Course on March 15. The Rebels upped their overall mark to 7-4 and their Prep League record to 3-1. Prep played league matches against Pasadena Poly at Brookside on Tuesday and Calabasas Viewpoint at the Encino Golf Course yesterday (Wednesday), but results were not available at press time. Prep will play Hillcrest Christian at the Altadena Golf Course today (Thursday)

SOFTBALL La Cañada 2, Monrovia 0: The Spartans' offense struggled against the Wildcats once again this season, outside of a bloop single from Alyssa Stolmack that scored Olivia Leyva and Katy Lee, who singled and bunted their way aboard, respectively, in the bottom of the third inning. Lauren Cox made it stand up for the win for La Cañada (13-2-1, 4-1-1 in Rio Hondo League), as she had a perfect game going through five innings, but wound up giving up two hits, while striking out eight batters in the game.

The area’s top-10 high school teams from the 2008-09 season were selected by the La Cañada Valley Sun and Glendale News-Press sports department. No. 1: La Cañada boys’ swimming — Could there have been a better way for their final season to end for the Spartan seniors? Cinching up their fourth consecutive CIF Division II championship in May, the La Cañada boys’ swim team was an absolute force in the water, dominating in the relays and individuals.
