Anyone entering the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday might have thought they were at a theatrical school such as The Juilliard School or a dance rehearsal hall. Sounds of tap dancing, classical music and the familiar countdown of ?five?six?seven?eight? echoed from every corner. Inside, dancers of all shapes, sizes and ages hurried from one class to another, all anxious to try something new or to experience a teacher they had heard so much about. This was the first Pasadena Dance Festival, produced and presented by Lineage Dance.

Performance will be at Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.Lineage Dance, a professional dance company based in Pasadena, tours nationally each year raising tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes. This February the company performs right here at home when they appear at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Feb.11, at 2 p.m. All proceeds from the performance will benefit the capital campaign of the YMCA. The performance features new choreography by artistic director Hilary Thomas in an informal setting and is suitable for all ages.

Lineage Dance presents "Healing Blue" Lineage Dance, a professional dance company based in Pasadena, tours nationally each year raising tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes. This fall, the company turns its focus to "Healing Blue" - a benefit dance performance designed to raise funds for breast cancer education, research and patient care. The local performance will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 East Green Street. On Saturday, June 2nd, the Armory will host Pasadena's premiere contemporary dance company, Lineage Dance, for an intimate dance concert. Not only will audience members be up close to Lineage in the studio setting, they will also be invited to participate in a post-concert conversation with the dancers and choreographer Hilary Thomas. This question and answer period is especially exciting for young people who are eager to know more about the world of dance. The affordable, family-friendly concert will feature some of the Lineage Dance favorites, including So Much Flowering and Drums of Reflection.

Flintridge Preparatory School's Dance Department will present its winter dance concert on Thursday, January 19. The program, a showcase of student-choreographed works, will feature solo and group compositions and a variety of dance styles. This will be the second of Prep's dance shows to consist entirely of choreography by students. Some of the pieces have been choreographed collaboratively by an entire dance class, while others have been created by individual choreographers. The program will include Advanced Dance class projects that use live choral, instrumental, and spoken-word accompaniment.

It can truly be said that there are many people in this area who are making a difference in the lives of others, and many who are making in difference in the world of the arts, but Hilary Thomas is doing both. Seven years ago, Hilary founded Lineage Dance, which presents dance performances as fundraisers for charitable causes around the country. Hilary and her dance corps have raised nearly $100,000 for organizations such as the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance, the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Hope and Light Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Constance G. Zahorik Breast Center at Huntington Hospital, Young & Healthy, Five Acres and many other important health, educational, arts and social service agencies.

ChocolateBox Café, with its handcrafted artistic chocolate wonders, is more than a pretty place. On Nov. 18, it was also the place where our community came together to celebrate and support the Foundation for Living Beauty. The Foundation for Living Beauty is an activity and service oriented organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of women living with cancer and cancer survivors. By offering innovative solutions to the inner and outer challenges that women living with cancer and cancer survivors face, the foundation is able to realize its mission.

Lanterman Auditorium in La Cañada will be the venue April 19 when Lineage Dance performs ?Dancing Through the Ages? as a benefit for the Desi Geestman Foundation. Curtain time is 8 p.m. The foundation was formed in 1999 in memory of the Desi Geestman, a 12-year-old La Crescenta girl who died of neuroblastoma. The foundation has helped cancer patients and their families with support both financially and emotionally. ?We work with so many charities throughout the year,?
