Take the whole family to celebrate Halloween at Heritage Square Museum during the Second Annual Halloween and Mourning Tours program. This two day event is perfect for the whole family and a safe alternative for trick-or-treating. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28 and 29, adult visitors will be inside the museum's historic houses dressed in mourning about Victorian traditions surrounding death and the origins of Halloween during their special tours. On Sunday, Oct. 29 only, children ages 2 to 12 are invited to arrive in costume, play period games, enjoy and make in 19th century harvest crafts, choose a pumpkin for the pumpkin patch, and receive treats from costumed interpreters.

On Sunday, May 7, the 17th annual Museums of the Arroyo (MOTA) Day invites the public to tour five museums located along the celebrated Arroyo Seco in Los Angeles and Pasadena for a free day of music, storytelling, art, crafts and entertainment. MOTA Day museums are open for free tours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and festivities are scheduled at each museum. Special events at this year's MOTA Day include: ·. The Gamble House. Visitors can enjoy a performance by Grammy-awarding winning musicologist Ian Whitcomb and his Bungalow Boys; children can do crafts in the backyard.

Got a nose for a good book? Like to read to your kids? Want to learn more about the connection between literature and Los Angeles? Plan to attend the 15th annual Museum of the Arroyo (MOTA) Day on May 16 for a free day of family fun, special events and museum admission - all done with a literary twist. MOTA Day visitors can meet local authors, have books signed and check out the latest in historical non-fiction. Kids can listen to regional storytellers as well as create books and other crafts - not to mention hopping on free shuttle rides between museums.

Explore our completely and partially restored Victorian buildings with costumed tour guides. Share the fun of history with your family and learn what Los Angeles was like before freeways, cell — phones, and fast food. Invoke genteel family competition with a game of croquet, hoops, or marbles. Or, learn how to make toys that don't require batteries or a joy-stick!
