Michele Crockett Bissias passed away peacefully on June 3, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Dorothy Crockett. She is survived by Peter, her loving and devoted husband, who she so fondly referred to as "Sweet Pea," and her precious and cherished daughter, Taia, who will always be her "Sweet Love." She leaves behind her sister Paula Lein, brother-in-law Chuck Lein, her nephew and niece who so adored her, Grant Lein and Amanda Lein, in-laws Nicholas and Frances Bissias and sisters-in-law Diane Bissias and Elaine Bissias.

Frances Bissias of La Cañada Flintridge was recently honored as the 2007 Mother of the Year at the annual Mother's Day Charity Luncheon and Fashion Show given by the Philoptohos Society of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. The event, Songs My Mother Taught Me," was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and hosted over 600 mothers, their families, and guests. Highlights were the silent auction, fashion show by Couture Productions, and a children's chorus singing a tribute to Mrs. Bissias.

To say Maria Caire is an active child is a bit of an understatement. A love of dance keeps this active La Cañada youth moving. The 10-year-old Palm Crest Elementary School student is involved in many sports and dance activities through school and her church, St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena. Maria is this week’s Valley Sun All-Star. She was nominated for the honor by faculty at Palm Crest Elementary School. “Maria always seems happy, she’s helpful and extremely caring.

H. James “Jim” Holroyd, M.D. H. James “Jim” Holroyd, MD, 83, died July 4, 2009 in San Luis Obispo. Jim was born Sept. 10, 1925 in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Harry J. and Doris S. Holroyd. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, and a devoted community member who touched the lives of many. Educated in the Jamestown Public Schools, he received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio in 1948, and his medical degree from Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio in 1952.
