La Cañada Flintridge residents Don and Cayce Sheppard are receiving the 2007-08 Golden Apple award at an early breakfast ceremony today at the Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia. The couple was selected for the prestigious award by the La Cañada Unified School District administration. Susan Boyd, a former member and past president of the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board, has been selected by the district's administrative team to receive the 2013-14 Golden Apple Award. Sponsored by the Assn. of California School Administrators, the award honors outstanding community leaders throughout the state. Deborah Weirick, the mother of two local elementary school students and a La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation committee chair, was selected to receive the 2009-10 Golden Apple award, district officials announced last week. The Golden Apple award is sponsored by the Association of California School Administrators and recognizes outstanding community leaders throughout the state. “Deborah Weirick is a perfect example of the outstanding parental leadership and support we have in the La Cañada Unified School District,” said Supt.

  "Volunteering is like food for the soul," said Andrea Terry, La Canada Flintridge resident who has been named recipient of the prestigious 2006-2007 Golden Apple award. The La Cañada Unified School District administrative team selected Terry to receive the award, sponsored by the Association of California School Administrators, which honors outstanding community leaders throughout the state. The award will be officially presented during a ceremony to be held in February.

Fernando and Valerie Aenlle-Rocha were named Jan. 20 as this year's recipients of the Golden Apple award from the La Cañada Unified School District. The Golden Apple award is given to outstanding community leaders in California and is sponsored by the Association of California School Administrators. The Aenlle-Rochas have been fixtures of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation since 1999 and continue to volunteer at individual LCUSD schools where their children are, or were once, enrolled.

Tamar and Jacob Tujian of La Cañada Flintridge have been named the winners of this year's Golden Apple Award from the La Cañada Unified School District administration, it was announced Feb. 8. The award is one of the Assn. of California School Administrators' highest honors. “Because their volunteerism extends from the school site to the district and to the community at large, all of our LCUSD families benefit from their tireless work and numerous contributions,” a news release from Supt.

Jeanne Broberg has announced she is running in the Nov. 6 election to return to the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board, becoming the second individual to announce her candidacy to date. Incumbent Cindy Wilcox threw her hat into the ring earlier this month. Broberg was elected to the board in 1993 and reelected in 1997. After a three year stint in Ukraine and Russia with husband, Dr. Charles Broberg, she is now back home in La Cañada Flintridge. "My eight years' School Board experience has only been enhanced by my exposure to the peoples of Eastern Europe, their appreciation for education, and their desire to better their lives," Broberg said in a prepared statement.

PTA Council President Sharon Otsuka has been named as the recipient of the 2009 La Cañada Unified School District Golden Apple Award, it was announced this week. Selected by the district’s administrative team, Otsuka will be honored at a February breakfast along with recipients from about 15 other school districts. “Sharon Otsuka is one of the best friends that La Cañada Unified School District has ever had,” stated La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent James Stratton.
