The Visual and Performing Arts Department of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, under the direction of Mark Bommarito, presents the award winning musical, Godspell, opening Wednesday, Nov. 15, and running through Saturday, Nov. 18, in the auditorium of FSHA. Opening night tickets, which include a pre-curtain reception, will sell for $17, and all other performances are $14. Tickets go on sale November 6. Godspell, written by John Michael-Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Tony award winner, Stephen Schwartz, of Wicked fame, is going to have a whole new spirit in this production.

La Cañada Presbyterian Church is hosting a performance of "Godspell" by The Azusa Pacific Players of APU for a one-night-only event at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12 in the sanctuary of La Cañada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd. The rock musical is a comedy based on the Gospel of Matthew. As with any production of "Godspell," the directors, cast, and crew have the freedom to interpret the simple script and score as they see fit. The Azusa Pacific Players present the life and teachings of Jesus through the eyes of a child -- simple, joyful and innocent.

AUDITIONS Foothill Summer Theatre — March, 7 . Auditions for Foothill Summer Theatre’s “Godspell” mark the program’s 27th season. Auditions will be held for the program March 7, at Flintridge Preparatory School. This year’s program will run from June 22 through Aug. 2 at La Cañada High School from 1 until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The tuition per student is $1,000 and each student is also responsible for $200 in ad sales for the show’s program book.

John Burroughs High School students in Burbank recently performed a summer musical called ‘Children of Eden,’ loosely based on the Old Testament. Some have criticized the show, arguing that it blurred the lines between church and state and that tax money shouldn’t go to such a program. Others say students should be exposed to all cultures and themes, of which the Old Testament is a part. What do you think?   My position is that students should be exposed to all cultures and themes.
