Drew names local to dean’s honor list Drew University student Caitlin Rose Guza of La Cañada was named to the dean’s list for the fall of 2007, it was announced in April. In order to qualify for the honor, Drew students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or above.   USCB winter quarter honors Five La Cañada Flintridge residents were among those named to the University of California, Santa Barbara dean’s honor list for the winter quarter of 2008.

Forget "Pirates of the Caribbean" an 18-year-old from La Cañada has had a real life adventure on the high seas. On June 28, John Loth returned from a two-month training voyage that traveled to Mexico, Peru, Chile and Costa Rica. Loth has loved the sea most of his life. "Since the age of seven I have wanted to go to sea," Loth said. Loth attends the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. "I am training to become a third mate licensed deck officer on a merchant marine vessel," he said.

Whether the recent heat wave that La Cañada Flintridge residents suffered through is caused by global warming or a natural cyclical event, the push is now on reducing greenhouse gases and using energy-efficient technology. On July 31, Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a climate change and clean energy collaboration. At a meeting at the Port of Long Beach, Blair and Schwarzenegger signed an agreement on a collaborative effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through working with businesses, research in cause and effect, education and sharing knowledge.

  Letters to the Editor Touchdown Church (Re:Touchdown Everyman, Aug. 3) If the Lutheran Church of the Foothills has lovingly been called the “Touchdown Church,” or the “Point After,” or the “Jesus Statue,” then what shall we call the “new and improved” La Cañada Presbyterian Church? The X-Games Church? The Roller Coaster Church? The Surf’s Up Church? The Mogul Church? The Mushroom Church? The Seven Dwarfs’ Hat Church?
