Q. Last week the Episcopal Church moved closer to full acceptance of gay men and lesbians, taking steps toward recognizing same-sex marriage and gay bishops. However, some believe that this decision by the church is doing it more harm than good, as seen by the many churches that exist as part of the breakaway Anglican Church in North America, at issue the 2003 election of Gene Robinson, the Episcopal Church’s first gay bishop. What do you think about this? Do you believe that in time, full acceptance of gay men and lesbians, same-sex marriage and the ordination of gay bishops will no longer be an issue for the church, or any church for that matter?

As Al Restivo says, “the American people are not stupid and see through this transparent bias.

The Super Bowl is this weekend. But the game won’t be played without a bit of controversy. CBS has rejected an ad from a gay dating website. While entirely commercial in nature, CBS argues that the spot “is not within the Network’s broadcast standards for Super Bowl Sunday.” While CBS has rejected other ads (one featuring a man named Lola), the folks behind the dating site say it is “straight-up discrimination.” What do you think? Is it “discrimination”?

A recent poll by the Public Religion Research Institute asked 1,017 Americans their view on religion and homosexuality, between Oct. 14 and 17, in the wake of a highly publicized rash of suicides by gay people. The poll revealed that most Americans believe churches contribute to gay suicides. Churches, the poll said, communicate "a lot" of negative perceptions of gay and lesbian people. Do you agree with the poll's conclusions? And what grade would you give your church in its handling of the "issue of homosexuality"?
