Terry Walker'sfriends and colleagues at the YMCA of the Foothills applaud the Kiwanis Club for its selection of her as La Cañadan of the Year [“Volunteer honored for service,” March 29]. As you read, Terry is one busy lady. Not only does she serve our city, chamber and schools, Terry is an active volunteer at the Y. In 2009, Terry joined our board of directors, where she brought her professional knowledge about human resources to the team. In 2009, Terry became the secretary of the executive committee and in 2010 chaired the annual Community Support Campaign, where we raised $407,000 to support program and membership assistance for all who live in our community.

The MOMS Club of the Foothills will be hosting the Second Annual Preschool Expo on 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Lutheran Church in the Foothills at 1700 Foothill Blvd. ?Looking for a preschool can be little overwhelming,? said Diana Thompson of the MOMS Club. ?There are a lot of schools in the area [and searching for the] right one can be exhausting.? Many of the moms in the club have been through that searching process or are facing it in the future. Their goal was to bring several of the preschools in the area into one room where parents can ask questions, get brochures and meet some of the staff.

Letters to the Editor Foothills cancer relay raises $130K We on the Foothills Relay for Life have some fantastic news! Despite the obstacles due to the economy, we beat our 2007 total. Drum roll, please — we raised $130,246.90. That is an amazing amount considering the small size of La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta, where the majority of our support comes from. In comments I made at our wrap-up party I thanked all of the committee personally for the wonderful friendships I have made through Relay.
