Ten Years Ago It was reported that more than 40 cars left parked on La Cañada streets had up to all four of their tires slashed by unknown suspects between Dec. 1998 and mid-January 1999. Twenty Years Ago A landmark La Cañada service station, Wes Graham’s Chevron, on the southwest corner of Foothill Boulevard at Chevy Chase Drive, was torn down and the property was on the market for more than $1 million. Having been purchased in 1987 by a group of investors, it had sustained damages in a serious fire in May 1988.

The following crime reports for La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta were taken from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Tuesday, May 1 5500 block of Pinecone Road, La Crescenta , someone entered a home and ransacked several rooms. A woman was caring for the home while the owners were on vacation. She had last been at the home the evening prior to the burglary. On her return, she found the front door open and it appeared to have been kicked in. A list of missing items had not yet been reported as of press deadline.

Descanso Drive in La Cañada, the rear window of a vehicle was smashed and the speaker was damaged in a vehicle in the 900 block at 1 a.m. on Monday. Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, the water fountain at Memorial Park was vandalized by someone breaking off the faucet at its base in the 1200 block, reported at 4:22 p.m. on Sunday. Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada, a man reported he heard laughter and loud talking outside his home. He went outside and saw a four-door white vehicle parked in front of his home with two white males in the front seat and two additional males jumping into the rear passenger seats.

A noon power outage affected La Cañada residents and businesses along Foothill Boulevard for a little over an hour on Monday. ?We responded, secured the area and waited for [Southern California] Edison to show up,? said Captain Rick Bodmer, from Los Angeles County Fire Department?s Station 19. Bodmer said that there was no fire at the scene when they arrived. Crescenta Valley Sheriff?s deputies also responded. Both deputies and firefighters departed after a Southern California Edison represented arrived.

Area 1: 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard: Two men left a Ralphs grocery store just after 6 p.m. on July 3 without paying for 10 cases of Red Bull energy drink and a case of bottled water. A clerk followed the men, described as white males about 30 years old, and saw them leave the parking lot in a black Scion. The loss was valued at $206.89. Then around noon on July 5, a clerk phoned deputies to report someone had once again left the store without paying for Red Bull and also left in a black Scion.

Cindy Wilcox brought up an interesting subject in her article in the Mailbag section of the Valley Sun. Is incumbent school board member Joel Peterson really a resident of La Cañada Flintridge ? When asked to explain his education business in an interview with reporter Tiffany Kelly in the same Valley Sun issue, Peterson refused to answer the question. This caused me to wonder. I thought that one had to be a resident of our fair city to run for a local office like the LCUSD Governing Board.

La Cañada Flintridge Nov. 30 Criminal threats: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard, 9:55 a.m. A 60-year-old Burbank man was arrested for allegedly threatening another man and brandishing a knife during a confrontation at a cardboard collection site. Nov. 28 Residential burglary: 4300 block of Vista Place, between 6 and 8 p.m.. A women's gold watch and other miscellaneous jewelry items were stolen from a home. A sliding-glass door in the home had been smashed.

Area 1 3000 block of Foothill Boulevard: A black JanSport backpack containing school supplies was stolen on Monday, Jan. 30, after its owner, a high school student, left it at the front of Walgreens while shopping. At 3:21 p.m. a white man with black hair and goatee, wearing a black shirt and green cargo pants, was spotted leaving the store with the backpack. 2400 block of Los Olivos Lane: A Garmin GPS, a pair of sunglasses and some small tools were stolen from a locked Saturn sedan sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. 1900 block of Verdugo Boulevard: A locked Chevrolet Suburban was broken into, with the driver-side door lock punctured and the steering column broken, sometime between 5:50 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25. Nothing was reported stolen.
