La Cañada Boulevard in La Cañada, the left rear tail lamp on a vehicle was smashed and the door hatch was crushed in the 5100 block between 1:30 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. on Saturday. Foothill Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue in La Crescenta, Stephen Valichnac, 18, of Arizona was arrested after he was found to be in possession of a wheelbarrow full of stolen items and a billy club. According to the report, deputies stopped the suspect as he was jay- walking across Foothill Boulevard, pushing a wheelbarrow.

  Members of Church of the Lighted Window were surprised after the 10 a.m service last Sunday when they observed a bobcat on the church campus. According to one witness, a group of women were returning to their cars, which had been parking in the upper lot adjacent to Foothill Boulevard, when the wild creature walked past some vehicles. Upon realizing he had caught the attention of humans, the cat disappeared into the oleander bushes.

La Cañada Flintridge Nov. 3-4 Petty theft: 4400 block of Rockland Place, before 12 p.m. on Nov. 4. A canvas bag, portable CD player, Walkman device, flashlight and tennis shoes were stolen out of the back seat of an unlocked vehicle. Nov. 6 Petty theft: 2100 block of Foothill Boulevard, 5:45 p.m. A GPS device was stolen while a man was shipping a box of merchandise at a store. Nov. 9 Petty theft: 5000 block of Crown Avenue, 9:30 a.m. A leather handbag, purse, checkbook, credit card, gift cards and movie tickets were stolen from a woman's unlocked vehicle.

Construction is expected to continue until mid-next week on Foothill Boulevard between Hillard Avenue and Leata Lane, as part of several street-resurfacing projects scheduled to be completed in coming months across La Cañada Flintridge. Work began Monday as crews began grinding pavement and reconstructing portions of the pavement in need of repairs, said Ying Kwan, city engineer for the city of La Cañada. This coming Monday, crews will begin to construct a leveling course and on Tuesday, a rubberized asphalt will be applied.

Ten Years Ago High winds fanned a brush fire that broke out after 9 p.m. on Dec. 21, 1999 in the rugged terrain behind Verdugo Hills Hospital. The fire, which moved through Cherry Canyon in Flintridge and then into Glendale, burned more than 500 acres and caused the evacuation of 100 homes. Twenty Years Ago In observance of National Drunk Driving Awareness Month, the remains of a mangled car that had been driven by an intoxicated person was on display at Jay Rabadi’s Shell Station on Angeles Crest Highway just north of Foothill Boulevard.
