Foundation to honor major donors The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation , a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to raising money each year for the La Cañada public schools, will be holding its annual Major Donor Reception on Thursday, Oct. 8 to thank donors who gave $1,000 or more in the 2008-09 school year. Local resident Sharon Otsuka will be recognized for her record of inspirational leadership by being presented with the prestigious “Spirit of Outstanding Service Award.

Three dozen local Girl Scouts have earned the prestigious Gold Award, which will be presented to them at 4 p.m. on May 21 during ceremonies at Lanterman Auditorium. They include: Caitlin Adams For Caitlin’s Gold Award project she refurbished the LCHS Football Food Booth. During the football season, she witnessed the condition of the booth during the time that PTSA parents volunteer and fundraise. When her troop began to talk about possible Gold Awards she knew she wanted to do something for the school she had attended since seventh grade.

Ruth Deborah Barber Ruth Deborah Barber is the daughter of Doctors Donald and Barbara Barber, and the granddaughter of Mary Barber and the late Dr. Donald Barber, and the late Zoltan and Eva Batyka. She is a senior at La Cañada High School. Ruth is a National Merit Semi-Finalist and a member of the National Honor Society and the California Scholastic Federation. She has been involved in her school band and choral programs for the past four years. She is currently co-president of the band and section leader of the pit. Ruth is alto section leader for the Chamber Singers, president of the film club, and has participated in the mock trial team for three years.
