To not forget about what a Realtor's job is, the Handy Group of Dilbeck provided a first-time house buyer with red carpet treatment. Buyer Erik Ovanespour fell in love with the house at 749 Danny Street. The Handy Group beat out multiple offers to get it for him. In this day of many Realtors just looking to cash their commission checks and tossing the keys to the new owner, the Handy Group wanted to do something special for Erik. They rolled out the red carpet for him, lighting the way to his first home with tiki-torches and including a special ribbon cutting ceremony to usher in this new chapter in his life.

Local Cub Scouts got a preview last week on how authorities rescue stranded hikers and climb snowy mountain ranges. They passed around an ice pick, held snowshoes and tested the weight of a harness. The demonstration, held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in La Cañada Flintridge, was part of the Success Through Awareness and Resistance (STAR) program offered through the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's station. STAR teaches youth about ethics, values and possible future careers, said Deputy Eddie Tsuang.

Well, the final curtain came down on the last of "filled-to-the-rafters" performances of Bat Boy at La Cañada High School. A sensational high school cast, comedy, tragedy, song, and dance, plus wonderful staging and sets made for a wonderful theatrical experience. Unfortunately, the element of tragedy emanated not only from the stage but also from some of La Cañada's citizens. Embarrassingly the play was erroneously portrayed by a minority as "?evil, filled with sin, incest, bestiality," ad nauseum.

Bill Rankin takes a minute to reflect about the people who have come to stay at his Rankin Guest Ranch over the years. He says he just got an e-mail about one of his favorite guests passing away. He sadly names a few more longtime guests who now are gone, but then he quickly perks up as he recalls one family in particular who invited the Rankins to their daughter's wedding. "I don't know of anyplace I've ever visited on vacation where I wanted to invite the owner of the place to a family wedding," he says in his unmistakable cattleman's drawl.
