Former Sport Chalet building is officially in escrow The Sportland building on the south side of Foothill that previously housed Sport Chalet is in escrow, according to representatives of La Cañada Properties, which owns the property, and Randy Stevenson, vice president of Stevenson Real Estate Services, which represented the seller. Stevenson and La Cañada Properties both declined to disclose terms of the sale or identify the buyer. Bids came in from several parties, Stevenson said, adding that the response was greater than he would normally expect in the current economic climate.

La Cañada Flintridge's Downtown Village specific plan is intended to drum up business and shoppers walking along Foothill Boulevard, but for California Executive Escrow at 707 Foothill Blvd., it means eviction. The plan designates that ground-floor spaces in that zone be used only for retail or real estate offices, and on Monday the City Council declined to make an exception for Rafik and Daniel Khatchaturian, the owners of 707 Foothill Blvd., which also houses the women's retail shop, Chico's.

California Executive Escrow Services, Inc. has merged its La Cañada and La Crescenta offices into one site in La Cañada. The move means that the firm's two offices were centralized in one new office. The escrow company for 20 years had offices at 827 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada and at 2870 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. Now the company has set up shop in new digs at 707 Foothill Blvd. "We saw this relocation as a perfect opportunity to merge our two existing operations," said Cheryl Pitt, a co-owner of the firm.

The sale of the Verdugo Hills Golf Course is pending, and Crescenta Valley golfers wait to find out what will happen to the course located at 6433 La Tuna Canyon Road in Tujunga. The announcement first was made at the Thursday night Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting. Karl Bathke, golf course managing general partner, confirmed Wednesday morning that the property is in escrow and the prospective purchaser is Calabasas-based MWH Development Corp. The La Cañada resident said he has not been told whether the housing-development firm will convert the land to residential use, as some local Crescenta Valley golfers fear.

Coldwell Banker's Fairbanks Group ? John Fairbanks, Marion Fairbanks and Kevin Sweeten ? ended 2006 on a high note with sales of over $46 million. "Though the number of homes sold last year diminished somewhat, prices remained firm and even escalated," said John Fairbanks. He attributed the price gains to the Fairbanks Group's expertise in research, marketing, and developing a pricing structure for each home to attain maximum exposure to serious purchasers. "Our objective is to work with each client on a plan that will be realistic in price and exposure," he said.
