Any La Cañada resident who may have missed Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail in his best Easter clothes will have ample opportunity to sneak a peek Saturday morning, April 23, when Dilbeck Estates Realty hosts the 16th Annual Easter in the Park at La Cañada Memorial Park. The fun gets underway at 10 a.m. This year’s festivities in the park will be followed by a city-wide scavenger hunt, “Hop Along the Boulevard,” sponsored for the second year by the La Cañada Flintridge Merchant Connection.

It will be a good weekend to be a child in La Cañada Flintridge, where free Easter events will cater mostly to youngsters. On Friday the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA hosts an Easter egg hunt and photos with the Easter bunny. The event takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Y, 1930 Foothill Blvd. Adults can participate in their own Easter egg hunt and win prizes, including guest passes to the Y, massages and a one-month trial membership. Descanso Gardens welcomes Easter with its traditional egg hunt and popular weekend brunches. Easter weekend, April 3-4, enjoy a holiday brunch with seatings at 9 and 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. The buffet brunch by Patina chefs will be served in Descanso?s Rose Pavilion. All children 12 and younger will receive an Easter basket and participate in an egg hunt! Cost for the brunch is $50 for adults ($42 for Descanso members), $20 children ages 4-10, free for children 3 and younger.

"I would like to thank these community minded organizations, after all it due to their generosity that this event is such a huge success, year after year," Widnery said.

The La Cañada United Methodist Church is holding an Easter celebration on Saturday, March 23. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., includes an egg hunt, crafts and games for children. The church will also hold a Palm Sunday service on March 24 at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 104 Berkshire Place. The misty and cloudy weather didn't keep La Cañada families from taking their children on an Easter egg hunt last weekend. The 14th annual "Easter in the Park" event sponsored by Dilbeck Realtors GMAC attracted about 350 families last Saturday morning, where children were kept entertained with abundant activities happening by the hour. "My favorite part of today is the hat parade and winning the big bunny," said 9-year-old Meghan Fenn. This year 30 children participated in the homemade hat contest.

Lutheran Church in the Foothills has planned soup suppers before the Wednesday evening services on March 22, 29 and April 5 during the Lenten season. The suppers begin at 6 p.m., followed by a worship service at 7 p.m. at the church, 1700 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. Pastor Bruce Johnson will deliver the sermon at the 8 and 10 a.m. worship services on Sunday, March 19. Sunday School is offered at 9 a.m., and a fellowship hour will follow. The Men's Prayer Breakfast will be held at Jeremy's in Montrose at 7 a.m. March 20. Every Wednesday "Awesome Adults" meet for exercise class with Rodger Dahl and bring a bag lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. Movie Night is planned for 6 p.m. March 26 in the Fellowship Hall.

Get ready to put on your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it, for Saturday?s Easter hat contest and parade at Memorial Park, one of many seasonal activities planned this weekend in La Cañada. In addition to the 15th annual Easter in the Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at La Cañada?s Memorial Park on Foothill Boulevard (which includes the 10:30 a.m. parade and hat contest) several activities are planned at Descanso Gardens on both Saturday and Sunday. Easter in the Park is a free event sponsored by Dilbeck Realtors of La Cañada.

Good Friday March 21 Noon Choral liturgy for Good Friday, and communion from the Reserved Sacrament will be offered. 7:30 p.m. Devotions at the cross, with music of Taize presented. The service features the burial of the cross from Serbian Orthodox tradition. Great Vigil of Easter March 22 7:30 p.m. This service begins in the Memorial Garden and proceeds into the church.

Easter Weekend at Descanso Gardens will be filled with laughing children hunting for eggs and happy families enjoying sumptuous brunches and spring flowers. The annual Easter Saturday Egg Hunt, April 7, will find children, armed with baskets and high expectations, joining one of seven hunts throughout the day. Families will want to arrive early to get the first-come, first-served basket-tickets for the hunt time of their choice. Each basket costs only $4, they are not available until that morning and demand is high.

Pastor Bruce Johnson will lead the worship services on Easter Sunday, April 16, beginning with a service, "Celebration of Life," to be held at 7 30 a.m. in the courtyard at Lutheran Church in the Foothills, 1700 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. This will be followed by an Easter brunch from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt for the children will follow. At 10 a.m. Pastor Johnson will deliver the sermon, "A Celebration of the Resurrection" in the sanctuary. On Good Friday at 7 p.m. there will be a worship service on the topic "Father, Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit," based on Luke 23:46.

La Crescenta children who want to get a head start on Easter egg hunts can visit two area parks. The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation will have an Easter Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to noon April 15 at Crescenta Valley Park. CV Park is at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. Later that day, the Department will host another Easter Egg Hunt at Two-Strike Park. This event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at Two-Strike, at 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. The events will be for children ages 2 to 12. It will give children the opportunity to hunt for eggs, win prizes and visit the Easter Bunny.
