East West Players, the nation's premier Asian American theatre organization, is accepting scholarship applications for acting classes in its Actors Conservatory and playwriting workshops through its David Henry Hwang Writers Institute. Artists who wish to pursue the performing arts as a career, as well as individuals seeking personal creative exploration are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until May 31,for all classes taking place September 1, 2006 - August 31, 2007.

East West Players continues its historic 40th anniversary season with the much sought-after "Equus" by Peter Shaffer, directed by East West Players Artistic Director Tim Dang. "Equus" is the electrifying journey into the mind of a 17-year-old boy who senselessly and systematically blinds six horses with a steel spike. As a psychiatrist explores the young boy's tortured psyche, the play becomes a shattering confrontation between the passionate spirit of the life force itself and the distortions forced on the spirit by "civilized" society.

East West Players continues its 41st anniversary season with I Land , a solo performance written and performed by Keo Woolford and directed by Roberta Uno. Support for this production is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation Endowment for East West Players. At once hilarious, defiant and transcendent, I Land weaves together traditional Hawaiian hula, Hip-Hop, Hawaiian talk story and spoken word. I Land is acclaimed actor and hula dancer Keo Woolford's moving search for the meaning of heritage in a post-modern world.

East West Players proudly announces its 41st anniversary during the 2006-2007 Season. East West Players Producing Artistic Director Tim Dang brings the artist to the forefront in a season that features new and classic works, exploring the struggles and triumphs of actors, singers and dancers both on- and off-stage. "In presenting productions that turn the company back to its original mission in performing arts, it is particularly fitting to dedicate our upcoming season to the memory of Founding Artistic Director Mako," said Dang.

East West Players, the nation's premier Asian American theater organization, presents the return of the Japanese American-themed holiday show The Nisei Widows Club Holiday on Thin Ice for 10 performances only December 9-18. Written by Tim Dang, Marilyn Tokuda and Denise Iketani, the original The Nisei Widows Club was a box office success in 2003 that used comedy to explore the lives of widowed Japanese American nisei (second-generation) women -- senior citizens who experienced the internment camps of World War II. Outstanding support from the Japanese American community prompted Dang, Tokuda and Iketani to collaborate again to create The Nisei Widows Club Holiday On Thin Ice in 2004.
