Mountain Avenue Elementary was Surf City, USA on Friday night as dads and their little surfer girl daughters enjoyed a night of hula-hoop races and California dreamin’ music at the Daddy Daughter Dance sponsored by Girls Scout Troop 943. The Girl Scouts decided that a daddy daughter dance was a great way to raise money for their troop and for a worthy cause; a portion of the money raised was donated to Save the Whales foundation. The beach party theme was complete with tropical decorations and dads dressed in their best Hawaiian shirts.

The old saying "Love conquers all" is questionable to a Californian in Austria. After 30 years in Vienna, I wonder at its truth, especially in the grey days of winter when "California Dreamin'" is whirling around inside my brain and snow is whirling around outside the house. My Austrian husband says that in marrying me he gave up his freedom. My reply: I not only gave up my freedom, I gave up warm weather (plus the sunny blue skies and lush green gardens of my home in La Cañada)

THOUGHTS FROM DR. JOE by Dr. Joe Puglia My final "write" on this Montana ad-venture would be difficult. I felt compelled to report back the discoveries we had made. Instead, I would have to take a piece of Montana with me, and that's exactly what I did. We began this odyssey studying history, skills, and ourselves but I hoped we would return with awareness and understanding of what the captains (Lewis and Clark)

Our country just added another candle to its birthday cake. To celebrate the occasion, I went to a friend’s home that sits high on a hill with a spectacular view all the way to infinity. We could see fireworks displays from the Rose Bowl and many surrounding cities. I think this year’s offerings of illuminations were quite spectacular. I guess when it comes to the thrill of a fireworks display I will never grow too old to enjoy the awe of it all. You know how I love the history of our nation.
