Our newest addition is a dog named Dune B. Ortiz. Dune belongs to a Naval Aviator. When his "mommy" got deployed, Dune got deployed. He got deployed right here. He got deployed to La Cañada Flintridge. Dune began this adventure with orders: "Effective 10 January 2007, 8:00 hours, Dune. B. Ortiz is TAD from Whidbey Island, WA to Intel, LCF." Should I have listened to my buddy Raffi Alexander? “Whatever you do,” he said, “don’t get a dog.” Should’ve, would’ve, could’ve reminds me of what my mom used to say: “If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas.” I’ve nowhere to turn. It’s black Monday; Penelope’s is closed and they’ll be no answer from a steamy chai latte, and in this dog-lovin’ town I’m on my own. Sabine and Simone have always wanted a dog. Ever since they learned how to craft a sentence, it’s been the same doggone mantra.
