Each year the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation conducts its Jog-A-Thon at each of the three elementary school sites. This year's event was held on Friday, Nov. 3 and it was a tremendous success for students and for the Foundation. This year's students who raised over $50 in pledges earned a beautiful aluminum sports cup, and the kids came through in record fashion, raising over $100,000 for our school programs. Craig Miller, the Foundation's Jog-A-Thon chairman, had high praise for everyone involved.

Members of the community were saddened to learn of the death of longtime La Cañadan Cardon "Card" Walker who led The Walt Disney Company for 15 years after the death of Walt Disney and that of his brother and co-founder Roy O. Disney. Walker died peacefully in his sleep at his La Canada Flintridge home on Nov. 29 at the age of 89 of congestive heart failure. Not only did Walker leave his signature throughout the world as a Disney leader but also in the foothill area with his involvement as one of the founding board members of Verdugo Hills Hospital.

With the holiday shopping season upon us, the ?High School Musical? craze is more apparent than ever. Pillows, backpacks, sweat shirts, board games ? all adorned with the Disney Channel Original Movie?s signature red logo ? can be found at every turn of the aisle. But for those tweens who just can?t get enough of the basketball-playing Troy, science nerd Gabriella or stage diva Sharpay, now there?s something else to ask of Santa, as a pre-Christmas gift: tickets to Disney?s High School Musical On Tour!

The Reptile Family will bring their buddies of the slippery, sliding, cold-blooded variety to Descanso Gardens Wednesday, June 28, and will teach children and adults about these gentle creatures during a hands-on encounter. The program is part of the Gardens' summer series, Family Fun for Nature Nuts, which meets Wednesday evenings through July 19. The Gardens will open at 5:30 p.m. for bring-your-own picnics at the Café Court. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Under the Oaks Theater.

Justin K. Bahrami, a 2001 graduate of LCHS and a 2004 graduate of the College Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati, has started graduate studies at The Juilliard School in New York City. He will pursue a master of music degree in flute performance, studying with Carol Wincenc. The Juilliard School was founded in 1905 by Dr. Frank Damrosch, the godson of Hungarian pianist Franz Liszt. Damrosch started the conservatory as the new world's rival to traditional, European music schools.

Palm Crest Elementary School students and their families flocked to the campus on Saturday for the school PTA’s annual Springamajig fundraiser, a festive outdoor carnival complete with games, food, live music and a cornucopia of silent auction prizes. When not busy chasing each other with squirt guns or playing any number of amusement park-style games, kids scrambled for turns in one of three deluxe bounce houses, a massive inflatable slide and the Mega Euro Bungee — a trampoline-like contraption that propels kids more than 20 feet into the air with the help of an elastic rope harness.

Every child counts, so all La Cañada Unified School District elementary school families should get ready for the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation's (LCFEF) annual Jog-a-Thon set for Friday, Nov. 3. Each child will bring home a Jog-a-Thon envelope and pledge form which needs to be returned to their classroom by Friday, Oct. 27. During P.E. class on Nov. 3, each child will have 20 minutes to jog or walk as many laps as possible. In advance, students will ask family and friends to sponsor their efforts, contributing money on a per lap basis, or as a flat donation.
