Everything has been heating up around here. We have been basking in early summer-like splendor with temps in the 80s while the East Coast is getting slammed with snow. The social and benefit season is revving up too. But before I get too far down the current benefit path, I also want to catch up on a great Las Candelas holiday party. Bobbi and Sal Gangi generously opened up their lovely hilltop home for a pre- Christmas gathering of members, spouses and guests.

Kiwanis-Am sings carols at VHH Following years of tradition Kiwanis-AM members went caroling last month at Verdugo Hills Hospital . With Marie Hyland at the key board, they started on the 8th Floor of the hospital and, singing their way down through the floors they delighted patients as well as hospital staff with their Christmas carols. Their thank-you was the smiling faces on patients who enjoyed a spiritual lift during the holidays. ? Las Candelas help at VMH party Helping put on the annual Christmas Party at Verdugo Mental Health in Glendale is just one of the few things that Las Candelas members do to help in the community.

Dan and Judy MacGregor recently hosted a wonderful brunch and murder mystery game at Oakmont Country Club to acknowledge and recognize their top agents. Recognized for their work were Barbara & Tim Conroy who were named top team in the company. Judy Sonney was named top agent, followed by Maria Elena Rodriguez in second, Betsy Mortimer in third, Jan Vallier in fourth and Suzanne Paine in fifth. In addition to the awards for top agents in the company, Bonnie Kent was recognized with the "Most Valuable Person" award, Adel Antoun , who played the piano beautifully for the event, was presented with the "You Light Up Our Lives" award.

The Las Candelas installation meeting and luncheon was held recently at the home of Doris Boyer. The installation was conducted by Debbie Hinckley, a past president of Las Candelas. Among those being installed were President Cathy Keen and First Vice-President Karen Whyte, benefit chairman for 2007. This year's Life Membership award was presented to Carole De Paul, a longtime member who has held every office in Las Candelas and continues to give volunteer service to the organization.

The La Cañada Thursday Club's Home Dining Group recently celebrated the end of their season with a fiesta at the clubhouse on Woodleigh Lane. Flavored margaritas flowed from the bar as a traditional Mexican meal was served and strolling mariachis filled the clubhouse with sounds from south of the border. The party was planned by chairman Angelica Edelbrock and committee members Stephen Edelbrock , Nancy Fraines , Joanne Gilson , Melida Liptak , Dave MacPherson , Dave Moffett and Sue Tutt .
