I sit in Penelope’s and stare at a blank computer screen searching for the humanity that might mitigate the anger I feel toward whoever desecrated the war memorial plaques in Memorial Park. The steamy aroma of a chai latte does not sooth my embitterment. I’m not even going to tell you what I am thinking, because it ain’t good. On the home stretch after early morning walks I often visit the war memorial plaques to say hello to the soldiers whose names are eternally etched in gardens of stone and in shallow crevasses our nation’s conscience.

For those of us who love the rural charm and foothills ambience of La Cañada Flintridge a warning was sounded in our city's planning commission hearing last Tuesday night. Several years ago our council passed extensive hillside ordinances to protect our "ridgelines, viewscapes and hill tops" and the rural nature of LCF, thus preventing the ugly scarring of the hillsides as has occurred in much of Glendale and LA. Thank You A big THANK YOU to all the individuals, organizations, and community leaders who supported my campaign for reelection to the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees. Letters to the Editor The shopping center sign, “A A de CAN DA” confronts everyone who is driving west on Foothill Boulevard from Gould. The sign, which is supposed to say “Plaza de La Cañada,” is an insult to the residents of what some of us call “beautiful La Cañada Flintridge.” Please recognize that this is vandalism of the first degree. The desecration has been in evidence for many months. Frequently it has seemed that more of the sign has been destroyed or removed from the original.

A pastor whose plan to hold a Koran burning at his church Saturday has drawn the ire of Muslims and non-Muslims around the world. Up until he decided to cancel the event late last week, the Rev. Terry Jones had rejected the pleas of military officials and even the president himself who said the event would "serve as a major recruiting tool for Al Qaeda. " If Jones has such a dislike of the Islamic faith, what alternatives could he have considered to get his message across that don't involve burning/desecrating a holy book?
