A bitter neighborhood dispute spilled over into City Council chambers on Monday, with a group of neighbors asking council members to force the owner of a Pembury Place home to reverse changes to that property made without required city permits. Ultimately, council members decided 4-1 to take a middle-ground approach. In exchange for being able to keep his deck and other changes to the property, they ordered homeowner Richard Cohen to permanently maintain foliage and landscaping to screen views and privacy of the neighbors below.

Jennifer Le DeGrey and Ryan Clark Daileda were married Aug. 3 aboard the Marina Hornblower Yacht in Marina del Rey. The romantic sunset ceremony took place at sea on the yacht's open air top deck with a reception held immediately afterward on the lower levels. Festivities included dinner, dancing, cake smashing and even a light saber duel right out of Star Wars. More than 60 guests joined the beaming couple on board the three-deck yacht to celebrate their marriage. Close friends and family journeyed to Marina del Rey from Hawaii, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Southern California.

The Flintridge Prep boys' varsity basketball team put up little resistance against host North Hollywood Campbell Hall last Saturday at Hope International University. The Rebels were buried in the nonleague tussle, 62-26, to fall to 5-12 overall. They remained 2-1 in league. Prep will travel to Chadwick School today (Thursday) for a 6 p.m. league contest, visit Claremont Webb School for a 4:30 p.m. league tussle tomorrow (Friday) and take the bus to Azusa Pacific University on Saturday to play Western Christian High in a 10:30 a.m. nonleague game.

A big step was taken was by both the La Cañada High and Flintridge Prep boys' water polo teams last season. While the expectations are different, both squads will look to keep moving forward in 2012. The Rebels are looking to move up the Prep League standings and for more Division V success after they reached the postseason last year. Just across the street, a CIF Southern Section Division III title is the focus for the Spartans, who reached the semifinals for the first time in five years in 2011 and have a new, experienced and decorated coach in Todd Sprague at the helm.

A structure fire ignited brush in La Cañada on Thursday evening and appeared to be spreading before flames were knocked down by firefighters. The blaze in the 300 block of Starlight Crest Drive ignited a deck in a backyard and spread to an adjacent brush area.
