La Cañada boys and girls cross-country both won the Rio Hondo League title at Crescenta Valley Park on Thursday, squeaking past South Pasadena. The girls’ race was tight as La Cañada beat South Pasadena by one point, 36-37. (Cross-country, like golf, is designed so the team with the lowest total points wins.) Holly Shreckengast (19 minutes, 29 seconds) and Meghan Fuelling (19:36) finished first and second. They were the only two to break 20 minutes at CV Park; South Pasadena’s Kaylee Anderson finished third with 20:03.

Summer’s here and it’s time to address my obsession with Bulgarini’s blood orange sorbet. Or not. 1. Paradis, Montrose Last Saturday, hoping to dispel my obsession with Bulgarini’s, some friends took us to sample Danish ice cream at Paradis in nearby Montrose. Paradis is a fresh ice cream franchise. There are 29 Paradis stores throughout Denmark. Montrose was the first Paradis store in the U.S. The second store is in Los Feliz. All of the ice cream and sorbets are made in Montrose.

Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland has a turn of the century American town feel to its shops and stores. Hollywood does not. But now the Walk of Fame has a little section where its the 1900s again. Disney's Soda Fountain and Studio Store is open next door to the El Capitan on Hollywood Boulevard, featuring homemade ice cream from Dewar's Ice Cream and Candies, a landmark in Bakersfield. According to Ed Collins, a Montrose resident and the general manager of the store, El Capitan Theatre, originally built in 1926, was restored in 1991, and since then has been used by Disney as a movie theater.
