For La Cañada Flintridge residents Barbara and John Burrows this past week has been an emotional roller-coaster ride. A week ago today they were contacted by the Los Angeles Police Department notifying them that after a 14-year search they had apprehended the truck driver who fled the scene after he smashed into the car of their son, Doug, leaving him to die in his burning vehicle on a downtown LA street. The suspect was arrested at the border between Mexicali, Mexico and Calexico in the U.S. John Burrows was asked by a reporter at a press conference held Monday at LAPD's Central Traffic Department, if he felt a sense of closure now that the driver of the truck had been caught and charged with manslaughter.

January ???Rainforest Fiesta,? La Cañada Flintridge?s entry in the 2008 Rose Parade, garnered the Animation Trophy. It was this city?s 30th year of participation in the world-renowned parade. That afternoon, USC beat Illinois in the Rose Bowl. ??A series of three storms swept through the area, dropping some 6.36 inches of rain on La Cañada, the most rain recorded here in a single month since 2004.
