Adrian Pietrariu spends most of his time pushing other people to work out hard, make sacrifices at the dinner table and see the reward for their labors. Last weekend, the La Cañada Flintridge businessman and resident reaped the rewards of his own effort, winning four medals at an International Natural Bodybuilding Assn. competition in Los Angeles. Pietrariu was named both “Mr. Hollywood” and “Mr. Los Angeles” in his weight and age categories for the physique he has cultivated without the use of steroids at his La Cañada gym, West Coast Boot Camp.

California Executive Escrow Services, Inc. has merged its La Cañada and La Crescenta offices into one site in La Cañada. The move means that the firm's two offices were centralized in one new office. The escrow company for 20 years had offices at 827 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada and at 2870 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. Now the company has set up shop in new digs at 707 Foothill Blvd. "We saw this relocation as a perfect opportunity to merge our two existing operations," said Cheryl Pitt, a co-owner of the firm.

All drug-related offenses in January investigated by the Glendale Police Department in the Crescenta Valley were attributed to heroin, an increasingly popular opiate among youth in the region, Glendale Police Chief Ron De Pompa said last week. Heroin use has been escalating in the Crescenta Valley in the past five years as more high school students and young adults have become hooked, he said during a presentation on drug use in north Glendale to the Glendale City Council. “For years and years, La Crescenta seemed to be untouched by a lot of the big-city ailments that we started experiencing in the rest of the community, and we are starting to see a change in that now,” he said.

The workplace serving of a lawsuit against state Sen. Carol Liu’s district director was nothing more than a “bigoted publicity stunt,” the Council of American-Islamic Relations said Monday. Tahra Goraya, a former national director for the council, was served with the suit in her Glendale office last week. The federal lawsuit, filed in the District of Columbia, claims the Council of American-Islamic Relations allowed a manager to claim he was an attorney and provide bogus legal advice to the organization’s clients, costing at least one of them their job. Morris Days allegedly took money from those clients, but did not file any claims on their behalf.

Tahra Goraya, district director for California state Sen. Carol Liu, was served June 10 with legal papers naming her as a defendant in a federal fraud and racketeering lawsuit. Goraya was at work at Liu’s Glendale office when she was served. “We are aware of it [Goraya being served with papers],” said Robert Oaks, Liu’s legislative director. “[The case] is from a previous employer, not since she has been with Senator Liu.” He added that he could not comment any further on the case or Goraya’s involvement but said she continues as district director, a job she has held since Dec. 1, 2008.

Part 2 ? Dear Bree: I will share my thoughts in answer to your question last week about how you, as an image consultant, can help a client adjust to a new location, make friends, and create new clients. I grew up in an Air Force family and moved every two to three years. Born in Virgina, I lived in Florida, Texas, Japan, Libya, and Puerto Rico until I was 21. I am so grateful for the experiences as I got to know many wonderful people, and am still in touch with life-long friends.

With New Year?s resolutions still fresh, many locals may be searching for a nearby facility that offers a way to maintain good health. If you ask longtime resident Wally Weiss, there is no better place to get into good physical condition than at the Verdugo Hills Hospital Cardiac Rehab Clinic. ?My wife was at Verdugo Hills a couple of years ago and after a long stay, needed to have rehab. She was referred to the Cardiac Rehab Clinic and decided that I needed to come, too, for preventive maintenance, meaning to lose weight,?
