Pastor Skip Lindeman will lead the 10 a.m. worship hour and deliver the morning message. Included in the service will be the sacrament of Christian baptism. Nursery care and church school also commence at 10 a.m. The Chancel Choir will perform "Christ, Illumine and Guide Me" by K. Lee Scott. Dr. Harold Daugherty is the director of music, and accompanying the choir will be CLW organist Joseph Klice.

As parents ready their children for Back-to-School, The Christian Science Sunday School, of First Church of Christ, Scientist, La Cañada Flintridge, invites them to join the church in helping them learn how to pray about and heal their every day problems, based on the Bible. This week's Bible Lesson is "Man," a discussion of our spiritual nature as the sons and daughters of God. The church's Sunday School meets at the same time as the church service ? 10 to 11 a.m. ? and those up to the age of 20 may attend.

In churches where holding hands, shaking hands or giving communion is common practice every week, religious leaders at churches in the La Cañada and Crescenta valleys have reported little change in their services preventing parishioners from observing these rituals. ?I didn?t notice any fewer people drinking from the common cup on Sunday,? said St. George?s Episcopal Church Rector Rev. Amy Pringle. ?We?re a tough lot.? The Archdiocese of Los Angeles? moderator for the curia/vicar general faxed a memo to parishes last week with recommendations for dealing with the swine flu pandemic.

It had been a hard day. With my wife, Kaitzer, at school getting “organized” for the upcoming semester, I had the girls — all day. I shall not commiserate with you — you wouldn’t understand. But all I wanted to do was spend a couple of hours hanging at Penelope’s sipping on a chai latte with a good book. No sir, I had to preside over the girls’ routine of getting up, dressing, brushing teeth, reading, math and making breakfast, lunch and snack.
