Democratic Club will meet Jan. 25 The next meeting of the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the home of Susan McConnell and Lars Perkins , 181 Normandy Lane, La Cañada Flintridge. The speaker will be Eric Bauman . Bauman is the Los Angeles County Democratic chair and is a candidate for vice-chair of the California Democratic Party. As voters prepare to head to the polls for Tuesday's primary election, Crescenta-Cañada political watchdogs are predicting few surprises in local races. La Cañada resident and state Assemblyman Anthony Portantino is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination for the 44th District race, and only one candidate is seeking the Republican nomination in the race, 21-year-old UCLA student Alvaro Day. Longtime Rep. David Dreier (R-San Dimas) is being challenged for the Republican nomination for the 26th District.

Seizing momentum of anti-tax Tea Parties where Americans vent their frustrations over government spending, Republicans from throughout the Southland descended on Jeffers? estate Saturday for an All American Rally. Dozens of fiscal conservatives gathered to oppose what they characterized as the Obama administration?s imprudent bailout of corporate America and the inclination of lawmakers to balance yawning budget gaps on the backs of taxpayers. ?Even Franklin Roosevelt never came close to deficit spending of the type that has been done already within a year after the pull of the trap door on this economy,?
