Members of the Foothill Auxiliary of the Children's Hose Society are busy putting the final touches on their beautiful baskets for the Chinese Auction. This year members selected a Chinese theme, appropriate for a Chinese auction. Each year the members collect items for 50 baskets designed around themes of holidays, book clubs, sports activities and travel. These baskets are filled with bottles of wine, crackers, gift certificates and many appropriate items useful for the themes of the baskets.

Ten Years Ago La Cañada Flintridge resident Chung Hong, 52, was mortally wounded and her son was injured during an armed robbery at the grocery store the family operated in South Central Los Angeles. Twenty Years Ago The Foothill Auxiliary of the Children’s Home Society was preparing for its annual benefit luncheon and Chinese auction, which would be emceed by radio personality Roger Barkley. Thirty Years Ago A special committee advised the school board to hold onto and lease out the La Cañada Unified School District’s Oak Grove and Palm Crest elementary school campuses, which were slated to be closed due to declining enrollment.

As I write this, it is too darn hot even though I have air conditioning. Forget about going outside to run errands because the thought of running to and from the car to wherever I'm going in this heat is more than I can bear. Seems summer just caught up with us about two months late. You warm weather fans I hope you are loving the sizzle. I hear from Mary and Daryal Gant that the annual Kiwanis wine and beer tasting event went very well last Sunday at Memorial Park in spite of the fact that it was 102 degrees in the shade.

Children?s Home Society gifted by its local auxiliary Foothill Auxiliary of the Children?s Home Society members recently heard Kelli Hinz , development administrator, discuss the activities Children?s Home Society provides California families. Hinz said that family education is wholly provided by donated funds. Family resource classes are offered at night for clients.
