The Allen Lund Company, a national third party transportation broker headquartered in La Cañada Flintridge, announced the promotion of Steve Doerfler to chief financial officer and the addition of Cynthia Lupica as in-house corporate counsel at the company's annual board meeting in March. Doerfler replaces Joe Hillman, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Doerfler earned a bachelor's degree in finance and management from the University of Portland, Ore. and his M.B.A.

More than 100 people attended Tuesday afternoon's reception and introduction of the Verdugo Hills Hospital's new Balanced Life program. The program, designed to improve balance and prevent falls, is a first for the hospital and has attracted attention from hospitals in other states. Making the program possible with generous grants are Uni-Health Foundation, Glendale Community Foundation, Capital Group and Burbank Healthcare Foundation. "We are so pleased that there was such a good turnout for the reception," said Laura Knowles, physical therapist and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation director.

Every year I witness magical events at our YMCA. Whether it is a child going to camp for the first time, learning to swim, participating on a Y-winners team, receiving financial assistance for child care or enabling our teens to participate in Youth & Government the scope of our reach never ceases to amaze me. Girl Scout event raises $259,000 More than 250 guests turned out Nov. 3 for the Girl Scouts ? Mt. Wilson Vista Council Annual Gala Dinner and Auction at the California Club, which raised over $259,000. The funds will help Mt. Wilson Vista Council provide more than 9,000 girls with opportunities to participate in council programs, summer camps and other traditional Girl Scout activities. Musical entertainment was provided by the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Jazz Combo and several Girl Scout musicians.

New board for local Foundation The Community Foundation of the Verdugos , formerly the Glendale Community Foundation, has elected Montrose resident Michael Velazquez , of Velazquez & Associates, as its 2009-’10 president. Vice president is Michael Deaktor , an attorney with Melby & Anderson, LLP.
