La Cañada Flintridge residents Steve and Ana Turko recently announced the engagement of their daughter Natasha Turko to Greg Gaudino, son of La Cañada Flintridge residents Tony and Cris Gaudino and La Crescenta residents Jan and Bob Canfield. Natasha grew up in La Cañada and graduated from La Cañada High School in 2002. She received her B.A. in criminology, law and society from UC Irvine in 2006 and recently started her master?s of business administration program at Pepperdine University.

On the second day of November, two busloads of Occupy L.A. protesters arrived in La Cañada Flintridge. Their destination: Commonwealth Avenue. Their target: the home of “a Deutsche Bank executive,” a sheriff's spokesperson told the Valley Sun. At first, La Cañadans were confused. Why would Occupy L.A. come to La Cañada Flintridge? And then, we learned that the demonstration concerned “a Deutsche Bank executive.” It turned out that it wasn't just any Deutsche Bank executive, but a true local celebrity, Brian Mulligan, who filed a $50-million claim against the city of Los Angeles alleging that in May, he was imprisoned in a motel room by the Los Angeles Police Department and then beaten.

La Cañada Flintridge resident Doron Kochavi, whose son Ari is alive today because of the treatment for a brain tumor he received at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, joined cancer survivor Lance Armstrong and 23 other cyclists who have been touched by cancer on an annual nine-day Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope? ride across America. SK Group engages Pintoresco Advisors Pintoresco Advisors, LLC , headed by La Cañada Flintridge resident Joel Peterson , has been exclusively engaged by SK Group, a $76 billion global Korean conglomerate. Pintoresco Advisors will help SKC Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of SK Group’s global advanced materials division, launch its latest investment efforts into the U.S. and other markets. Using mergers and acquisitions, SKC Inc. intends to increase its U.S.-based revenues in advanced materials from $200 million to over $800 million over the next two years.

Nurses, senior citizen advocates, and religious and consumer rights leaders carried signs protesting a La Cañada Flintridge-based nursing home corporation during a press conference held last week at the company's Foothill Boulevard headquarters. Emmanuel Bernabe, chief executive officer of Pleasant Care Corp., owns or has interest in more than 30 nursing homes throughout California. Bernabe and Pleasant Care have come under scrutiny since March, when State Attorney General Bill Lockyer filed a 13-count complaint charging the corporation with neglecting patients and violating state health codes.

Dining With Duvall by Lynn Duvall Julio Ramirez Jr. waved to me as I stepped through the gates into the shady courtyard of a house above Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada. I'd come to chat with his wife, Annette Castro Ramirez, about her involvement as co-chair of the Capital Fund campaign for our Girl Scout council. I was distracted the minute I arrived - enthralled by the Old World boxwood hedges, a multitude of fruit trees, goldfish pond and an arbor surrounding a romantic, steep-roofed, stone house.
