England has a new princess. Prince William and Kate Middleton exchanged their wedding vows at Westminster Abbey on April 29. Now Kate is officially known as Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus. Yes, I confess, I did stay up into the wee hours on Friday to watch the nuptials as they were happening. I was also emailing back and forth with my son Chris, who lives in England. He and his family didn't think they would brave the throngs in town and were watching it on the “telly.” I've been a Kate watcher for several years, so I just couldn't miss this event — her gown was exquisite and William so princely in his red military jacket.

If you liked “Casino Royale” you’re going to love “Quantum of Solace.” Forget the weird title taken from an Ian Fleming short story. All you need to know is that Quantum is an international cabal of evil-doer’s much in the tradition of Smersh and Spectre. Its purpose is sinister and its immediate intent is to corner the market on that most precious of all terrestrial products, water. This politically correct plot point is a nod to global warming and the multiple shots of infinite vistas of dry, throat-choking sand drive home the message.

In 1939, David O. Selznick kicked off the biggest beauty pageant since Esther caught the eye of King Ahasuerus when the director announced a nationwide search for an actress to play the coveted role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With the Wind." But bigger and better even than that fabled film search is the longest running beauty contest in movie history which began in 1962. Who would be the new James Bond? Last year's competition was for the lead in "Casino Royale" ? to be released this November ?
