We'd all been told it could happen, that members of the very rarest of species, pedestrianus lacanadanus, could make regular appearances on Foothill Boulevard. But I was chief among the doubters. Oh, sure, we'd see one or two bipeds along the main drag every now and again, but they were usually attached to skateboards. Or, they were the church-going variety, dashing from the sidewalk in front of La Cañada Presbyterian across the street to the Plaza shopping center, where they'd left their cars for the duration of a Sunday service.

Two cars collided  shortly after 3 p.m. Monday on a rain - slickened Foothill Boulevard at Daleridge Road in La Canada, sending one of the drivers to a hospital. After-school traffic around St. Francis High School , St. Bede Elementary School and La Cañada High School slowed to a crawl, as the two cars waited in the roadway for tow trucks to arrive, blocking the westbound lane of Foothill . Deputy Will Agtual of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station said that one of the drivers was transported to Verdugo Hills Hospital after the crash, but that extent of their injuries could not be reported at this time.  The other driver, a middle-aged man who declined to give his name, said that he had been driving west on Foothill in his Honda Civic when the other driver, behind the wheel of a Chevrolet sedan, attempted to turn from Daleridge onto Foothill , heading east.
