Drivers on Foothill Boulevard had to watch out last Friday night, as a driver took his 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier down the wrong side of the road and through a red light before being stopped by Sheriff's deputies by Verdugo Boulevard at 10:30 p.m.  After pulling over the car, deputies found that the car had been reported stolen, and arrested the driver, 25-year-old Matthew Decker of Pollock Pines, Sgt. Moments after Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station deputies responded to a burglary alarm Wednesday morning at a home on the 4300 block of Shepherds Lane, the station also got a call from L.A. County Fire Station 82 — this one about jewelry boxes being thrown from the window of a car entering the eastbound 210 Freeway behind the station. It turns out that the boxes, which still contained assorted costume jewelry, belonged to the burglarized homeowner, who is working with investigators to determine whether anything else is missing from her ransacked bedroom.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and search and rescue teams are looking for an occupant after a vehicle was found on the side of the Angeles Crest Highway. The sheriff's department received a call at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday to report the vehicle, said Sgt. Robert Galbraith of the  Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Department.  The car was found empty and authorities are currently looking for the driver. A bicyclist in La Cañada Flintridge suffered major injuries on Tuesday after being struck by a car on Angeles Crest Highway, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Angela Shepherd said. The victim, a 30-year-old man visiting from Oregon, was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. His condition was not immediately known. The bicyclist was struck by a Scion sport utility vehicle at 5:44 p.m. along the 5300 block of the highway, a short distance northeast of Glenola Park.

A bear was struck by a car in La Canada Flintidge early Sunday morning. No one was hurt and the bear left on its own, according to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. near the corner of Foothill and Crown Avenue, according to the sheriff's department. -- Bill Kisliuk , Times Community News

A car and driver have plunged over the side of Little Tujunga Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest, prompting rescue crews to try to extract the driver. Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies took a call about 10 a.m. Wednesday reporting a car off Little Tujunga at Dillon Divide, north of Lakeview Terrace in the northeast San Fernando Valley. Los Angeles County Fire crews Montrose Search and Rescue have crews at the scene, according to Lt. Angela Shepherd of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

The fifth annual Foothill Festival of Cars will take place on Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. in La Crescenta. This is a free event for neighbors and friends with lots of show quality cars and trucks, great food, family fun, and music. There will be free give aways and prizes all day long. Wine & Cars Under the Stars, a unique fundraising event being held this Saturday, June 16, includes the official unveiling of the medalists of the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition which was held in May and presented by Ralphs. The benefit takes place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum at Fairplex. Tickets for the event are $100 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. Host packages are available starting at $500.
