Christina Nicole Berkuta, daughter of Mary Ann and Nick Berkuta of La Cañada Flintridge, married Dr. Daniel Gregory Hancock, son of Rosemary and Don Mahrt of Arlington, Texas and Nancy and Don Hancock of Laguna Hills, last Sept. 6 at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach. Christy’s high school friend, Megan Hughes Luce, was her matron of honor; Dr. Timothy Hanson was Dan’s best man. Christy graduated from La Cañada High School in 1994 and the Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant Academy.

When Deborah Johannes visits her family?s beach cottage in the Mexican village of Popotla, just south of Rosarito, she travels, sans jewelry, in a low-profile Jeep Patriot. ?You don?t go driving a BMW in Mexico,? the La Cañada Flintridge resident said. During her most recent trip she left her teenage son at home, even though he was on spring break. ?We would have loved to have our son take his friends down and surf, but none of the parents wanted to let their kids go with us,?

At their upcoming Friday, March 30 Annual Big Strike Auction, boy scouts of the Verdugo Hills Council are offering an 8 week-old yellow Labrador Retriever puppy as one of their exciting live auction items. The professionally vet-checked and inoculated healthy puppy with an accompanying 10-week dog obedience class is but one of many silent and live auction items available at what Council Executive Director Jon Maeta describes as "one of the most spectacular of all 33 annual Auction Dinners to date" Among the over 300 silent and live auction items available for bid on March 30 at the Castaways Restaurant Big Strike Boy Scout Auction are full week resort condos at Cabo San Lucas, VIP Reagan Library Tour with Gourmet Dinner for eight, Disney Club 33 amd Disneyland entry, Glendale P.O. helicoper ride, New Year's Day Parade and Rose Bowl seats, 2007 Indy 500 Seats for four and a North Carolina Biltmore Estate Manor luxurious Cottage stay.

Scouting fundraiser ready to sail Time draws short and the day draws near for this year’s major 34th Annual Big Strike Auction fundraiser. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday evening, April 11 at the Burbank Castaways Restaurant in support of the extensive Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America. According to this year’s chairpersons Dede Mueller and Greg Krikorian, “Followers along with families and friends of the Council’s many scouting endeavors and worthy youth-oriented programs look forward to this upcoming, once-a-year festive evening featuring limitless silent and live highly valued auction items along with an elaborate dinner and on-stage entertainment.

Our recent cruise on Holland-America out of San Diego was an excellent example - a 45-minute drive from our suburban San Diego home and we were ready to board our ship to the Mexican Riviera.

Newcomers hold progressive dinner At a progressive dinner Oct. 13 members of the Newcomer’s Club members enjoyed appetizers at the home of Hailey and Frank Paton before moving onto several different homes in town to eat dinner. Afterward all reconvened for dessert at the home of Tina and Andy Daley . The La Cañada Newcomer’s Club is a social club for all La Cañada residents.
