A woman has been arrested for allegedly committing numerous commercial burglaries including the Valero service station on Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta. According to CV Sheriff Detective Rodger Burt, at around 5 a.m. on May 30 Jackie Arias allegedly smashed a window of the Valero service station and stole several items, including 800 lottery tickets. The state lottery has an agency that investigates stolen tickets. Burt contacted the agency and discovered that several of the tickets were redeemed at a store in Pasadena.

While sifting through donations, a volunteer at Dragon Thrift Store on Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada found a loaded revolver. ?The volunteer found the loaded gun inside a garbage bag, underneath some clothes,? said Detective Roger Burt of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff?s Station. The volunteer brought it in shortly thereafter to the sheriff?s station. Detective Burt noted the gun may have been dropped off unintentionally by the generous donor. ?We?ll be holding onto it,?

Sheriff's deputies arrested a trio of alleged car burglars in La Cañada Flintridge last Friday, and now they're looking to find the rightful owners of the burglars' loot. Detective Rodger Burt said that the three men were caught in a car on Ocean View Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 2 after the suspects committed a rash of vehicle burglaries and thefts. Burt said that he was able to link the men to two burglaries and five thefts through property recovered from their vehicle, but he thinks there are victims he has yet to identify that are still missing property.

There’s that old saying, sometimes life starts at 50. La Cañada resident Kathy Bergen didn’t start running until she was 54 and before she knew it, she was holding American Records in track and field events. “It’s fun,” Kathy said. “Winning is good.” This week, the Bergens are traveling to Palo Alto for the Senior Games, where Burt will compete in high jump and Kathy will compete in 100 meters, 200 meters, high jump, javelin and discus.

Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly stole a purse from an elderly woman and attempted to cash one of her checks. According to Det. Roger Burt, around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 24, an elderly woman left her purse near her car, which was parked at her home. She went into her home for a few minutes, and when she returned, her purse was gone. Then, at around 1:45 p.m., a man attempted to cash one of her personal checks that had been in her purse at the Montrose branch of Bank of America.

A man has been arrested on grand theft charges stemming from a case of copper theft at the La Cañada Town Center. On July 29, Jeffery Randmal, 30, of Walnut was arrested on charges of grand theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a narcotic and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. According to Crescenta Valley Sheriff Det. Rodger Burt, Randmal allegedly cut cables in an attempt to steal copper wiring at the Town Center on July 24. The cables he cut powered the security trailer at the location, when the power went off the security guard investigated and witnessed a vehicle, later connected to Randmal.

On Feb. 25, the Crescenta Valley Sheriff?s Station detectives arrested a Glendora man on suspicion of solicitation to commit a residential burglary, carjacking, robbery, kidnapping and murder of a local couple. According to Detective Roger Burt, Ramon Banos, 25, once worked for the La Cañada couple remodeling one of their properties in Beverly Hills. He was dismissed but claimed that the couple still owed him $30,000. ?They say he overcharged them. They are [presently] in a civil suit,?

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff?s Station is asking for the public?s help in locating two women suspected of stealing a woman?s wallet from her purse and using her credit cards to charge up to $4,200 worth of merchandise. According to Det. Rodger Burt, on June 17, a 75-year-old woman had her wallet stolen from her purse while she was shopping at the Ralphs Market at 512 Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada. Burt said that this type of crime typically happens when one suspect distracts the victim, while another steals the purse or wallet.

Shawn Christopher Wright, 31, of Tujunga was arrested after someone recognized a photo of him that was published March 29 in the La Cañada Valley Sun and March 30 in the Crescenta Valley Sun. "Somebody called us and said 'I know who that is' after they saw the picture in the paper," said Detective Roger Burt of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. According to Burt, on Feb. 24 Wright allegedly stole an elderly La Crescenta woman's purse from beside her vehicle.
