AREA 1 2700 block of Timberlake Street: $1400 in cash and two pairs of $700 Armani glasses were stolen out of a Hyundai Genesis while it was parked in front of its owner's home sometime between 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22 and 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. The victim stated that the car was locked, but that the moon roof may have been left open. There were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle. 3900 block of Orangedale Avenue: A black marker was used to draw multiple lines on the trunk of a silver Honda Accord sometime between 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 and 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22. 2200 block of Mira Vista Street: A Toyota Rav4 was vandalized, with its rear passenger window smashed and both passenger doors heavily scratched, sometime between 1:50 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The damage was estimated at $1500.

There’s been an uptick in home burglaries in La Cañada Flintridge, including 14 in August and eight so far this month. Shouldn’t we be concerned about that? If we are, why aren’t we doing a better job of protecting our properties? One well-known local political figure, Anthony Portantino, once told our paper that when he went door-to-door campaigning in town he learned the No. 1 interest among local voters was public safety. Sewers, the Sport Chalet development, property taxes and other issues one might have expected to raise people’s hackles took a back seat to public safety.

A little less than a month after a 30-day rash of armed robberies of La Cañada Flintridge businesses, employees working at a pizza place were robbed at gunpoint. Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station Sgt. Victor Ibarra said a black man entered the Domino's Pizza at 456 Foothill Blvd. at about 9:30 Thursday night, Dec. 10. He allegedly brandished a gun and ordered the employee working in the front to open a cash register. Finding no money in that register, he ordered the two working employees to the back, where they gave him about $150 from another register.

  Ten Years Ago It was announced that Church of the Lighted Window, to cap off the celebration of its centennial year, would hold a gala banquet and dance at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club on Dec. 14, 1997. The theme selected for the event was “A Christmas Gift to the Community.”     Twenty Years Ago Assistance League of Flintridge put the word out it was in great need of a variety of musical instruments for the increasing number of students participating in its elementary school music program.

July 10 Harassment: 200 block of Foothill Boulevard, 6 p.m. A man followed a woman into Seoul Market and attempted to slide a mop with a camera attached to it under her legs. A bystander confronted the suspect, who locked himself in a storage room. Deputies recovered the camera, but no pictures or video had been taken and the woman declined to pursue the suspect's arrest. July 11 Mail theft: 800 block of St. Katherine Drive, 10 a.m. or earlier. Residents of two homes reported their mail stolen.

La Cañada Flintridge Feb. 27 Vandalism: 4400 block of Oak Grove Drive. A member of school security contacted police so a student's mother could report an act of vandalism to report to her vehicle's insurance company. On Nov. 19, the woman reported, her son had driven her car to school. When he returned to the vehicle, he saw that it had been keyed in a manner that was "quite obvious. " The officer reviewed security video from that time period and saw nothing, but was informed the camera only records when motion is detected.
