It was a bright Tuesday at Conrad’s. The Memorial Day banners were still up. I had just ordered my favorite omelet (green chile, with jalapeño cheese, cooked “easy” with a side of salsa) when she arrived. The Anonymous Source. She looked me in the eye and said, “Errata.” “I know, I know,” I replied. Last week’s column erroneously listed Sarah Elizabeth Patten’s law school graduation date at 1912. In fact, she graduated in 1911, along with her future husband Frank C. Doherty.

We have all seen the commercials. "More bang for your buck!" And that's the golden truth for this western themed roller coaster, Silver Bullet, at Knott's Berry Farm. Silver Bullt is a suspended roller coaster that zooms guests through six inversions to a height of 146 feet above the ground. Two minutes and 9 seconds is all it takes to cover 3,125 feet of unbelievably smooth track, even through the loops and spirals that make you feel like you are flying free like a bullet. Being called Silver Bullet, one would assume that the track or cars would be silver.

Maybe it wasn’t the perfect ending to Homecoming the Spartans wanted, but it was still a good one. Though they were falling early to favored San Marino, La Canada bounced back to almost tie the game and looked to take the lead at one point. Yet a run offense and a fumble to start the third quarter that no one saw coming ended up being too costly for the Spartans, as they lost to San Marino, 23-14. The Spartans (3-4, 1-1 in league) played well against the pass, but suffered against the run, giving up 301 total yards on the ground, 195 to Titans’ running back Scott Dooley.

There was no question that the Bell Bombers were the best neighborhood football team in the Bronx and were heavily favored to beat The Golden Wakefield Bullets. The game was touted as a grudge match, there was a lot of bad blood between the neighborhoods and it would be decided on the football field. The Bombers were sponsored by Coach Bell, who owned the Chevy dealership on Fordham Road. They had uniforms, practice drills, and the best players in the Bronx. When the Bombers took the field, they looked magnificent in their black helmets.

He is 27 years old, stands fit and trim at 6'2'' and will return for a second tour of military duty in Iraq sometime this month. His name is Cpl. Michael T. Morton and he is a U.S. Marine. For me, the war in Iraq now has a face. I met Morton and members of his family last Saturday night during a surprise birthday party for his father, Marty Morton, who is director of Maintenance, Facilities and Operations for La Cañada Unified School District. The party in La Crescenta celebrated a dual purpose, as it was also a farewell send-off for Mike.

The Golden Wakefield Bullets, the name still resonates as it flows off the tip of my tongue.

Why does the paper waste space with such worthless, arrogant and idiotic tips from people in law enforcement like the latest one from Det. Patrick Murphy? Yeah, make it easier for the violent intruder to commit those home invasion robberies knowing defensive weapons have been rendered useless thanks to the advice of Det. Murphy. The arrogance of these cops who dish out senseless advice but who exempt themselves from such stupidity. Can you just see Det. Murphy going home, emptying his gun(s)
