I am writing to state my support for Joel Peterson. I have known Joel and his family for many years and have had the opportunity to witness his commitment to our community and to our schools. I had many discussions and saw his hard work being one of the founders and leaders of the La Canada Outreach Committee. At his request and to show my support, I hosted a Holiday reception for the Outreach Committee in December 2003, the organization's first official event. I saw his community commitment again in his efforts to help educate our citizen's about the recent bond and parcel tax measures.

It’s getting bigger and better, but don’t expect to lose the friendly atmosphere or fine dining experience folks have come to expect at Taylor’s Steakhouse. Taylor’s recently celebrated its 12th year in La Cañada and will soon have seating capacity for up to 225, more than three times the capacity of when the restaurant opened Mar. 22, 1996. The restaurant has gone through extensive construction in recent months, including the addition of a structure on the back side to accommodate a food preparation kitchen and an additional restroom, and new dining area and wine room on the west portion of the facility, Taylor’s has been open throughout the rest of the project.

Drug surrender boxes still being used Approximately 700 hypodermic needles and nearly 79 lbs. of medication were recovered this past week at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station’s drug surrender program boxes. About 167 lbs. of medication and 4,605 hypodermic needles have been surrendered to the CV Station’s drop boxes since Jan. 1. Captain Dave Silversparre said he and the station are very happy with the quantity of medication and hypodermic needles turned in as part of the program, but that the program is a service for civilians and not for pharmaceutical businesses.

The caution tape and tall orange cones that surround the parking lot of Taylor's Steakhouse were barely noticeable - that is, they were barely noticeable to anyone not a vendor or a customer at Saturday's Farmers Market. The steakhouse's parking lot used to be open to any customer of the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association-sponsored Farmers Market. But in recent weeks it has been blocked off. Henry of White Gold Honey, who did not give his last name, said he believed the action was taken because the row of mulch behind the vendor's booths had been falling into Taylor's parking lot. In addition, there is a crack in the concrete which, according to Henry, Taylor's management believes was caused by the farmers market.

La Cañada trails people tout this town as Trail City USA. So where are all the hitching posts? wonders local resident Denise Loveless, who dropped by the Valley Sun office on a recent day with photographic evidence that there are riders who, at least on occasion, eschew cars in favor of four-legged transportation. "We [in La Cañada] should promote riding horses, not discourage it," said Loveless. "Why not put hitching posts in front of business establishments along Foothill Boulevard?
