?Do you know how to save your life in case of a wildfire?? That is the question at the center of a brochure available at the La Cañada Flintridge City Hall. ?Operation Evacuation? produced by the County of Los Angeles Fire Department, is a comprehensive look at what residents can do to prepare them for disaster. ?The brochure covers a lot of different [general issues] preparing [residents] for evacuation,? said Peter Castro, safety coordinator for the city. The first issue the brochure covers is an evacuation plan.

An Episcopalian neighbor sent me an interesting brochure. The brochure was for a conference on the Middle East at All Saints Church in Pasadena, organized by ?Friends of Sabeel.? I looked closely at the brochure. The conference would commemorate the al nakba . I was puzzled. I knew that al means ?the,? but what in the world was nakba ? Naturally, I took the brochure to my friend, Ahuva Einstein. Ahuva?s mother is familiar to those who read this column. Ahuva?

Dan MacGregor , president of MacGregor Realty, announced a new program for agents joining the company and for clients who buy or sell their home through a MacGregor Realty agent. "At MacGregor Realty, we believe that bigger isn't always better for the agent or the client," said MacGregor. "Sometimes the agent gets 'lost in the crowd' and does not receive the recognition and benefits he or she deserves for their services. The clients may also get lost in the large company and not receive the type of advertising and one-on-one personal service they receive in our firm.

Seeking Adventure? Goddard's at it Again Life in La Cañada is safe, relatively quiet and probably all-too-predictable for more spirited souls, but I'm content to stick around town most of the time. Although New York City is my favorite destination, I'm more likely to take my vacations closer to home. Not so for John Goddard. You know John; he's the extraordinary adventurer/explorer who for 34 years has hung his gear right here in our hometown between travels. If you don't know about him, he led the first expedition to successfully explore the entire length of the Nile, following that up by also becoming the first to explore the length of the Congo.
