After the fires and then the wind that blew black gritty ash down over all of us, I decided I could put it off no longer and I took my long, bristled thingy-on-a-broom- handle, turned on my garden hose (with an auto shut-off nozzle) and began washing down my windows, walls and the ceiling of our veranda. About an hour into this I felt something tickling me and I looked down into the open neck of my shirt and was struck almost dumb with horror as I spied an enormous, brown/black spider right above my bra. Screaming didn’t help — although I tried it. Neither did slapping wildly at my shirt while bent over at the waist.

As I have mentioned earlier, there may be nothing wrong with your body, but only in your choice of bathing suits. Educate yourself about your body so that you can make the best decisions. In 1935 swimwear covered 35% of the body; in l942, 24% was covered; and in 2010, only 14% covered our bodies. Companies are now creating more choices for body-slimming suits. Finally, they are listening to women. The following are suggestions for different body types: Long torso (longest area from nape of neck to break-of-leg)

Ten Years Ago A new dress code was approved for La Cañada High School that banned backless and strapless tops, gang-related clothing, and metal spikes or studs. It also stated that boxer shorts and bra straps were not to be visible and that midriffs could not be bare. Twenty Years Ago Anne Kursinski, who began her training at the Flintridge Riding Club as a child, was bound for Barcelona as a member of the U.S. Equestrian Team in the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. It was the third time she'd been named to the U.S. team since 1984, but not the last.

Part 1 Body proportions It is essential to understand the importance of body proportions and balance in the choice of clothing designs. Technically, vertical body proportions for clothing styles can be determined through charting the body (on paper) to analyze your bone structure. With the paper attached to the wall (as tall as the person?from the floor), a diagram of the human body is determined by having someone mark: top of the head to the underarm, underarm to the hipline (where the leg meets the torso)

Lynn Duvall Walking up the path to Janet Hamilton's La Cañada house, I wondered what year the home had been built. With a footprint appropriate to lot size, the architectural style of the Hamilton house complimented neighboring properties. The roof, window trim and paint appeared to be in perfect condition. I decided the timeless quality of the house was based on seamless, strong construction completed years ago, enhanced by meticulous maintenance, or what real estate agents refer to as "pride of ownership."
