We are speeding through April at an alarming rate. After we get over the hump of income tax time I know that I will feel better that it is over and done with. My goodness, I hate that time of the year! Social happenings are cruising right along here in LCF so I will share with you what is going on. Our mayor, Steve Del Guercio and his first lady Elysa , hosted the recent Tournament of Roses ?Happy Hour? at their lovely home. More than 100 guests, with hors d?oeuvres in hand, arrived at the door ready to party.

The July La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. Happy Hour was hosted by Laura and Bill Olhasso. Some 65 floaters enjoyed the event. The August get-together will be the annual ?Hamburger Night? at the home of Sarah and Mayfield Marshall, 4918 Vineta Avenue, in La Cañada. Festivities start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, and anyone over 18 is welcome. More than eighty floaters gathered at the home of Jean and Don Spomer for LCFTRA's March Happy Hour, and multiple venues for food created a spacious ambience great for chitchat and even serious conversation. Bill Watts, the 2010-2011 president of Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, announced at his last meeting at the helm of the organization that it had donated more than $23,000 to various charities and organizations during his tenure. Watts also recognized the club's many chairpersons and thanked them for their service. The club's donations include $2,250 to the Christmas Fund; $2300 for the Hope-4-Kids; $3,000 to the Literacy Program; $900 for Youth services; $1,000 to LCF Tournament of Roses; $4,000 to Descanso Gardens; $470 to Kiwanis International Foundation; $1,500 to the Eliminate Project; $1,000 to the LCF Community Center; $1,000 to the YMCA Prayer Breakfast; and $1,000 to the Young Leaders Scholarships.

The La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association honored its major donors on Dec. 29 at a festive tented party held "under the bridge" on Foothill Boulevard at Hampton Road, where the float "3-2-1 DIG" was in final preparation for its Rose Parade debut. This annual event, organized by a committee of the organization's past presidents, attracted approximately 100 supporters who sipped champagne and wine as they sampled hors d'oeuvres and exchanged holiday greetings with their fellow enthusiasts.

The LCF Tournament of Roses floaters had the "best of all possible worlds" at their Happy Hour June 22 at the home of Pat & Otis Hutchin s. It was a lovely evening for a patio party. Otis and his "The Wright Stuff Jazz Band" kept guests in a toe-tapping mood all evening, the food table was a "groaning board" of delicious morsels, and the friendly bartenders provided suitable liquid refreshment. Mary Gant was installed as the 2011-2012 President of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada (Noon) at an installation dinner held at the Oakmont Country Club last week. The installation of Gant, a former La Cañadan of the Year, and her fellow officers was made by the California-Nevada Governor of Kiwanis International Cmdr. Jack Olmstead. USN, Ret. More than 150 Kiwanians and friends attended the dinner to celebrate Gant's installation and to bid farewell to 2010-2011 President Bill Watts.

Kiwanis installs its new slate of officers Nicholas (Nick) Berkuta lll was installed as the 2009-2010 President of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada during the club’s Installation Dinner on Sept. 30, at the Oakmont Country Club. Also installed were President-Elect Bill Watts , Vice President Jim Stratton , Treasurer Bob Wallace and Secretary Skip Boyd . Diane DellaValle , Brian Fuller , Linda Magarian and Fred Schooley were installed as Board of Directors who will serve with Mary Gant , Harriet Hammons , Cory Stevens , Melinda Thompson and Paul Westmoreland . The immediate past president, Carl Christensen , will continue to serve as a club officer for the next year.
