Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy celebrated its 30th Gala at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on Feb. 11. More than 530 guests including, current and former parents, teachers, and alumnae attended the event. Interestingly, in the late 1920s, the Biltmore Hotel chain operated the building and grounds of Sacred Heart. Sister Celeste Marie Botello, principal, and Sister Carolyn McCormack, president, greeted the guests. The attendees then descended into the foyer of the Biltmore Bowl listening to the sounds of Sacred Heart's very own string quartet, comprised of Laura Dominguez '06, Cristina Nguyen '06, Eva Steinmetz '07 and Madeline Emanuel '07, as they enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while bidding on an array of silent auction items.

Local resident Boon Ueda, who has been waiting for spring to plant flowers in her garden, is wondering if she waited too long.

Speaking of presidents and politics, I?ve been preparing for a trip to Ireland and therefore have been telephoning some of the country inns that I want to stay in to make reservations.
