For some time now, I have considered the fact that while we must use the Bible as our universal truth on which to model our lives, the people and families written about within the Bible were at best dysfunctional. While I am a firm believer that the Word of God must be opened and used in our public meetings and applied to our personal life, I also believe we must take into account the grace Jesus brought us in the New Testament. One ought to also take the context and historical setting into consideration before we rigidly apply it to our lives today.

An avalanche is building in La Cañada and it's headed for the local Calvary Chapel of the Foothills. "This year, our church is a stampede of excitement as we visit Avalanche Ranch," said Pastor Gary Ruff. "Our Avalanche Ranch program will provide fun, memorable Bible-learning activities for kids from four to twelve years of age. Each day, kids will sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, nibble Chuck Wagon Chow, take on a daily challenge to let God's love grow into their homes, experience electrifying Bible adventures, collect Bible memory buddies to remind them of God's word and create Bible point crafts they can take home and play with all summer long."

Archpriest Father Hovsep Hagopian, parish priest of the Armenian Apostolic Church of La Cañada Flintridge, will base his sermon on a passage from the Bible, "Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me" (Psalm 23,4) at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, July 2 in Lanterman Auditorium, 4491 Cornishon Ave., LCF. The rod and staff are simple objects, but in the Bible they have different meanings, depending upon which book of the Bible is read. Critics feel that Ramsey’s financial advice does not belong in church, that “It was a way to make money instead of deliver a message.” What do you think about what Ramsey is doing?
