Just the two of us. Mothershead is a volunteer regional coordinator for Girls on the Run, a program that helps girls build self-esteem by training to run. Mothershead is a Toronto native who moved to La Cañada in 2006. Her husband, John, is a La Cañadan and a 1984 graduate of Flintridge Prep.

Paradise Canyon Elementary held their annual Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Patch last week. Students, teachers and parents stopped by the pumpkin patch to stock up on pumpkins donated by local realtor Carey Haynes. The Mattix family correctly guessed 131 pounds as the weight for "Big Mac," and got to bring home the largest pumpkin in the patch. Deejay Ray Rocks entertained the crowd in the cafeteria with the "Monster Mash" and plenty of pop songs. Face and hair painting, pumpkin decorating and plenty of refreshments at the bake sale rounded out the all out fun event.

Kids frolicked among the pumpkins, got their faces painted, bought candy by the fistful and gussed the weight of a giant pumpkin during Paradise Canyon Elementary School’s 15th annual Harvest Fesitval held Oct. 9 on the school’s campus. While kids danced to the music of a deejay in the school gym, other kids had images of bats and pumpkins painted on their cheeks. Other kids played with the many pumpkins that lined the school’s courtyard. Some even tried to lift the giant squashes, with little to no success.
